Well, I finally got a chance to drive my car in the snow. After spending two years driving an '83 Camaro at 9,000 ft. in the Colorado Rockies, I was so excited to see snow this morning. I fired up the Porsche, and off I went.

I actually (from what I remember) prefer the way the Camaro handled snowy conditions... of course, it could be that the Porsche just has more power to keep under control. The Camaro was a dog, but ironically, a great snow car.

No incidents, and the drive was nice. I think I was the only one around here who actually drove the speed limit (instead of poking around like a blind turtle)... Overall, not bad. The very predictable handling and neutral balance was certainly appreciated as I rotated the car through various intersections with no over-rotation or off-axis sliding.

Having actual winter rubber on the wheels would help, I would think... but snow is a rare enough item around here not to hassle with it.

Wow, you guys really got a dump down there! Up here we got snow for about 10 minutes and then it stopped. That's the valley for ya though, if you want snow, head up the mountain.

Yeah... we only got 3-4 inches here in this part of the valley, but further north they got 6-10 inches in Corvallis and Salem.

To the south, I heard Redding and Shasta in northern CA are buried in multiple feet. Bad, b/c there was little or no warning down there. People are stuck in half-buried cars on I-5 and rescue crews are having a hard time getting into the area.

Apparently lots of snow in the mountains. Reminds me, I haven't been skiing yet this year.

24's with summer hi performance tires are outright dangerous on icy or snow covered roads.

But if you put some nice snow tires on all four corners and about 3 or 4 40 pound bags of salt in the hatch, they are great winter cars.

Man, if your 924 is worse in the snow than a Camero, it must be really bad. My wife had an '86 Camero, and the very first snow, I did a 180 in the middle of an intersection. After that I kept studded snows on all fore wheels in the winter. Noisy, but at least she could get to work safe.

My 931 has never been driven in the snow, but it did get snowed on once in a parking lot at work. However, it was melted by the time I went home, so I can't speak for it's snow handling capability.

the camero I think he is refering to is the V6 under powered piece, they are ok in the snow I have driven them, the 924 is awsome in the snow very controllable, the 928S forget it, way too much torque, probably doesn't help that the 928 has performance tires on it when I had driven it.

Hi performance tires are dangerous on even dry roads when the temp dips below freezing.

I've got 3-season Bridgestones (Potenza RE 950) on the car and it does quite well in the snow. Don't even need to throw weight in the hatch. I ran it around Pittsburgh last winter when we got more than 10 inches, I drive through Cleveland in the winter more than once each year and the 924 is fine there too.

After spending a late night in the garage saterday night getting parts ready to install..I look outside at around 2:30am and didnt think much of it. Thought it would be gone by morning so I loaded up with the digi camera and cam corder and went outside for awhile then went to bed. Awoke to no power to the house and a foot of
snow. Power hasnt been restored yet and its monday afternoon. I love the snow.
