My 924 has been in a garage for two months now (didn't have time to prepare it for the winter, with the sunroof leaking etc.). I went to check on it yesterday for the first time and noticed a largish puddle of oil under the gearbox. I'm planning to let it stay in the garage until late March. Should I do something about this now? What about when I get it back on the road? Is it even possible to add/change the gearbox oil without jacking the car up? I'm not small enough to crawl under there... and I think it says in the Haynes the car should be level when doing this (plus the oil definitely isn't going to get warm from driving any time soon). _________________ 1984 indischrot 924 |

is it an auto or stick, if stick and it is leaking then you would have to take it out and replace all the seals, if an auto probably just the pan gasket _________________ 3 928s, |

Which seals are leaking? If it's a manual, you can drain and fill it on the ground, but it's a tight fit to get underneath, as you are well aware. Regardless when you drain/add, or whether or not you put it on stands or a lift, be sure that you can unscrew the fill plug before you drain the gearbox. More than one of us on Board have had real problems getting the fill plug out. Both the fill and drain plugs take a 17mm hex key. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

Hex key, Allen key, big ol' 17mm 6-sided mf-er, or whatever you want to call it - I got one and cut about a 30mm long piece off the end and slip that into a regular 17mm socket. That gets attached to a 1/2" drive ratchet wrench or torque wrench... _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Is that your final answer?
Actually, "hex" means 6.
hexagon - polygon with 6 sides
hexapod - bug with 6 legs
hexadecimal - number system based on sixteen digits (hexa (6) + decimal (10))
etc. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I take exception to the hexabilly since I grew up in the hilly section of PA.
Hexabilly means hill billy with 6 TEETH! |
