Im thinkinen the stuff I used before had
a peel away layer
then you applied water and soap
though Im thinking the stuff I used on my
.I did the rear

Joe I emphasize again! DONT do it yourself have a pro do it, or you will get bubbles or it will fade and look really bad, or are you just trying to do a half @$$ job on everything _________________ 3 928s, |

I had my 924S done in a shop for ~$250 sides and back. Really helped with the sun. Stays noticeably cooler and I like the look. The guy said the back window (hatch) was really tough to do. _________________ Glenn Neff

I think tinted windows look very good on the 924, but all after market tints will bubble/peel after about five years, and then they look like Caca. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

My brother had his professionally tinted... Took the guys several days, and ended up costing them alot more than what they quoted him. Of course, it was quoted, so he paid what they said up front _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

There should be a peel away layer.
Tinting is great its a must down here in Florida. Tinting will also help preserve your interior. I would not consider using the cheap dyed tint. Make sure you use the tint that has metal in it. It will not fade and it has much better heat rejection. You could do the side windows yourself but the rear hatch has to many curves. A tint shop uses a heat gun to shrink the tint and get a good fit in the curves. From reading other post at least half of the professional jobs require a second trip to the tint shop. I need to take mine back for two small creases also. _________________ 1981 924 NA

Joe I have done about 25 cars over the years I get a little better with each one that I do. I bought a Heat gun to attempt to shrink the hatch tint to try it. one of the most crictiacal things is the cleaniness of the Glass. I razor blade the glass (except rear with defrost then the non-scracth white or green scotch brite pads. For the rest of the tools that you will need see the link below) BUT THE 924/944 Hatches are some of the most challenging to do in terms of diffulctty.
For hints tricks, and tips.

\BTW I think that YOur car tinted with the yellow paint will look fantastic. _________________ Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

I removed the rear hatch and quarter glass panels during the course of my rebuild. I had thought the professionals would be able to do a better job, especially on the hatch glass, if they were able to work with it on a bench. The so called professionals at the local Ziebart shop said no sweat for the quarter glasses but they would prefer to work on the hatch glass if it was installed in the car.
What do I know about window tinting? So I got Ziebart to tint the quarter glasses at that time, made arrangements and got a reasonable quote to have them tint the hatch after I had re-installed it. Two weeks ago I took the car back to them, hatch installed as they had requested. Later that day they called to say they would not tint the rear hatch as they could not guarantee the results. Thanks a lot incompetent, so called professionals at Ziebart. The best they could offer was the name of 2 other local shops for me to try.
Well I went with one of the other shops they suggested. A place called Supertint. Dropped the car off this past Monday evening with the understanding they would complete the work the next day. No sweat. They did do an awesome job tinting the rear hatch glass.
Unfortunately after their technician completed the tint job he pulled the car out of the shop in order to park it in front where I would pick it up. My suspision is tinting one of these hatches must be really frustrating, even for the professionals. How else can one explain breaking the driver side door glass by "just normally closing the door"?
I now have a very nicely tinted rear hatch but no driver side door window to roll up and down. What next? Fortunately, Supertint seems to be a reputable shop. They've ordered a new replacement glass which will be installed in the spring when I put the car back on the road.
