hi all,
first off just like to say this is a great site, basically i have a question about a 924 i have been offered for sale, I have wanted a nice 924 for quite a while, it is a red 2.0 1980 W reg car the owner has had it for many years it only has 79k on the clock with some history, however it has been of the road for a while so the engine is a bit tappety, and it needs a new exhuast, also it has a turbo body kit fitted and a very nice and clean black leather interior, just wondering what these cars are worth (roughly) i know its old so what kind of problems am i likely to have with it, also is there anything specfically i should check on a 924 before buying it (is there a buying guide somewere), any help would be much appreciated,
thanks in advance |

if it needs new exhaust and has disc all around (5 Lug wheels) and the body and int are in decent shape anywhere fro $500 - $2000, depending on how much you can talk him down _________________ 3 928s, |

| You said the motor sound a bit tappety? Sounds like it might also have a bad cam. Look closely at the battery box and look at the area below the battery box in the wheel well area for rust. If it is rotted, run as fast as you can and don't look back. |

You should do a search to see whats wrong.. Take it for a drive
if it works its all good. I dont know have a inspection done on the car
by a mechanicaly inclined person not your girlfriend you know checking things like oil and water
leaks, compression leak down test, visuel on plugs cap and rotor check
belt check look under neath it check brakes look for leaks maybe check the clutch.. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

hi,
thanks for the replys they were extremely helpful, i picked up the car yesterday night, i did all the standard checks as sugested, it all seemed fine so i thought i might as well go for it, i also got it at a very good price , just got a few questions, none of the vanity lights work(interior, boot, bonnet) the engine also hasent been seriviced recently so i was wondering which oil plug i should use, also how do i find out which exact model it is, it just says 924 COUPE 2.0 in all the paperwork, thanks again for all the help i will get some pics up soon,

The light in the bonnett only comes on with the running lights on. The boot and passenger lights have a switch on each that is on off auto type. Possibly the switch on the boot got out of alignment turning on the lights constantly and the PO either shut them off with a switch or pulled the fuse or wire or bulb. _________________ Glenn Neff

The exact model is a 924. Porsche made three other street models the 924S (2.5 liter), and the 931 (2.0 liter turbo), and 931 GT (2.0 liter turbo). The 931 GT looks phyiscally different with the fender flares and they are rare, but I am not familiar with all of the differences. There were to other versions built for racing the 931 GTR, and the 931 GTS IIRC. There were a few customs options offered throughout the years like the Martini & Rossi, or the Weisach edditions but those were not different model numbers. _________________ 1981 924 NA

You can find more out with the vin number. There's a vin decoder online somewhere (or was that just an option decoder) - if no-one posts it, try a search. It's been mentioned before - just recently in fact, but I can't remember where I saw it. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I did not notice the hood scoop on your avatar earlier. I have never seen a 931 GT in person, but IIRC the fender flares on the 931 GT were bolt on and didn't look as sleek as you might expect from the factory. Plus your hood scoop is a GT style. It could have been a conversion or who knows maybe you have a very rare 931 GT, but I am a glass half full kinda guy. Is your engine turbo charged? _________________ 1981 924 NA

Roger it is not a 931 GT it is the 924 Carrera GT factory # 937, or a CGT _________________ 3 928s, |
