How hard is it to swap the cam cover on the 924?
In addition to the new cover do you just need a new gasket? Does the gasket have to be treated with something?
Is this a simple thing or a big complicated thing?
Thanks. _________________ -Stu

It's a pretty easy job. The only things to watch out for are the little nuts and washers that hold the cam cover on. They're quite small and easy to lose, so be careful when you take them off. Once you have the cover off, it's a good time to inspect the plastic elbow on the oiling tube and peek at the cam lobes and followers to make sure they're wearing evenly. I don't use any sealant of any kind on the valve cover. _________________ Jon Furst |

Its really easy. Why though, did you get a polished cover? Or is it leaking?
You 'should' use a new gasket. You might be able to get away with it but why bother?
Just make sure you do a really good surface prep (clean, and dry) before you put new gasket on! Don't put anything on gasket!
924 Turbo is right about the cam feed elbow BUT for your own peace of mind, you should replace the elbow and the tube. Very cheap insurance!! They are on ebay all the time, although prolly avail. just about anywhere. VERY CHEAP insurance!!

You are on the information superhighway. Do a google search for "animated avatars".
I was going to use a NASCAR one but the "super mechanic" was just too good to pass up _________________ -Stu

takes me 10 minutes to take off, really easy. Make sure to get both the valve cover gasket and 2 seals. I ordered seals from performance, only to find out that it comes in a pack of 1. As Jon already said, make sure to keep track of those little nuts, they are fairly easy to loose. Good deal on that valve cover, really nice. Make sure to get pictures once you install it.
might want to check your valve clearances once the valve cover is off...just in case. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

Hey Stu2j, You got yours cheaper than I got my beadblasted. pretty cool.
I think I paid $15 to have mine beadblasted (packaged other parts as well)
Good move,
