| well, it looks like things could be worse then I thought. I had thought that I must have a leaky injector (still a possibilty) but today, none of my injectors seemed to leak at all after shutting off the ignition. I also noticed my coolant is low agian after toping it off about a month ago. I don't have much history on my car so im unsure when the headgasket was last done (if ever) The symptoms I get when I try starting the car in the morning are that it either starts and dies (until I hold the pedal down once it starts) or cranks and won't start untill I depress the pedal and keep trying to get it to catch, afterword the I need to rev the engine a bit and when I let of the gas, the idle wanders abit before settling steady. I had assumed that one of my injectors was leaking but I now relize that perhaps coolant could be leaking through the headgasket (or oil) I know my car leaks oil, it dosn't seem to burn it. I need to degrees my engine and check where the leaks are coming from and see if I can track down any sort of coolant leak. Should I make an appointment to have my coolant system checked and get a leakdown test of my engine to check the head gasket? None of my injectors appeard to be leaking to me but I could take them into a shop for testing? Any suggestions on what I should do? I have still been able to drive the car daily without heating problems. |

| you probably have several problems . the leaking coolant might be fixed by retorgueing the head bolts , on some models, its required every 30k miles . the hard starting sounds similar to what my rustang did when the choke stop working . the cold engine needs a richer mixture to start and warm up . maybe your aux air reg. is stuck open or a leak somewhere in the intake system is leaning out the mixture . theres a write up in the FAQ about the cold start injector and how to fix/bypass the auto controls . |

| Actually Iv replaced both my Warmup regulator and my auxilury air valve. It could still be the problem but I am under the immpression that they are functioning properly. I will inquire about costs for having the headbolts retourqed, I suppose I could do it myself but am a little wary of causing major problems (stripping a bolt.. ect) I guess if that dosn't fix it, I will look into having my injectors tested at a shop (or depending or price of inspection) just buy 3 more new injectors. |

Do a compression test to check the head gasket. Usually the head gasket causes an overpressureization of the cooling system. Is coolant comming out of the overflow tube or does the expansion tank have any cracks? If the head gasket is bad then water is sucked in on the intake stroke and usually results is white smoke comming out the exhaust.
I am sure you have posted earlier but I can not remember it you checked the CIS start system AAV, cold start valve, thermo time switch, auxilary start valve, fuel accumulators? _________________ 1981 924 NA

I have been through most of the system, I haven't yet checked the cold start valve or thermo time switch though. After replacing my 20cc accum. with a used 40cc my starting problems were temporarly fixed but now I am having trouble starting it agian. I will make an appoitment for a compression check soon.
I also, haven't caught the cooling leak in action yet. I haven't thought about it till now, yesterday I noticed my coolant is getting pretty low agian. |

try unplugging the thermo timeswitch and make sure there is power at 1 of the points when ign is on, then try bridging the 2 points and try starting the car, this will force the cold start injector to open up _________________ 3 928s, |

I was wondering have you replaced the fuel filter? You probslly have but just checking. I had this problem once, It was my fuel dizzy. I took it out cleaned it up put it back on and it was fine. Another time I had hard start problems was because my battery didn't have enough cranking amps. A new battery solved that problem. And again another time I had starting problems I was getting anti freeze on my spark plugs. Put in a new head gasket and everything was fine. Well these are just some suggestions, Good luck _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |
