For a while now I have had a heat shield rattling like crazy, it started off kinda unnoticable but it finally got to the point where I was like "Man I gotta do something about that, it's embarrassing, people probably think I have a crappy car cuz it's noisy!" So yesterday I jacked it up and got underneath it, and the only heat shield I could find was the one over the cat, and it wasn't lose at all, so I hit the exaust pipe with my hand and could hear the rattle, "Ah ha!" I thought to myself, it wasn't a heat shield at all but the O2 sensor was loose! Imagine that, so I got my tools and tightened the dang thing. Voila! No more rattle, aaaaand I gained a little bit of horse power that I had apparently lost because it was making my exaust leak! Man that was the greatest day of my life when I figured all of that out. Crazy how things work like that eh?

Those easy fixes make u feel good. I had a rattle like that turned out to be the spot welds on the heat shield for the cat. Some of them separated. I ripped off the heat shield completely. Fixed it right up.

You had better remove it and apply some fresh anti-seize compound or it may "become one" with your down pipe. . .

Sounds like a pretty decent excuse to buy a new exhaust to me.

Nice find!

I will caution you that when you go to apply anti-sieze that you make sure the anti-sieze is sensor friendly or be very, very careful when applying it to the sensor to not get ANY on the sensor itself and only on the threads.

You don't want to buy a new downpipe from Porsche. . .

Thanks for the feedback guys, but I've noticed that now that the rattle is gone, I can hear other things that I couldn't really hear before, like I've noticed that the engine has a little bit of a tick to it. Is that normal, I've heard of a so called "4 cylinder curse" the sound the injectors make as they turn on and off, but I don't know if that is common with a Porsche, any advice?
