|

Hello all. New to the forum. Happy I joined. You guys are the authority on these cars. Here's the first of what is almost sure to be quite a few questions.... I have a 79 924. The hatch struts are just shot. I'm currently using the very high-tech method of an old broom handle to hold the hatch open. Is there any way to fix these or should I just get new struts? If new is the way to go, does anyone have a suggestion on where to look?
Thanks a ton. |

VERTEX AUTO
Performance Products
Tweeks
Auto Atlanta.
I like dealing with the guys at Vertex Auto...Good prices and Knoweledgable Staff
Check with your local dealer...sometimes the shipping costs offset the savings off list. also watch ebay under "porsche 924" for needed items...
Good luck and welcome to the club house for the mechanically insane... _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

actually, do these places only sell the 944 part number shocks now? those shocks WILL make the glass separate from the frame (they're too strong).
mine just barely keep the hatch up when it's cold out, which is just right i think. someone posted about letting some of the gas out of the 944 set to make them not as strong. try to search for it.
-just a note, you don't want to replace that hatch.

Thanks Capt. I'll check those places out this evening. Nick, thanks for the info on the 944 shocks. You're a life saver. I'll look for that post.
Thanks again, guys. |

I got a set at Autozone.....just took one of the old ones and matched up to ones off the shelf....same mounts and even the connection for the defroster wire.....they are a bit too strong right now but I am sure they will weaken with use.....just be carefull when opening hatch and not let it "hit" the top too hard or it will lossen the glass from the frame..... _________________ 79 924 "Missy Grey" |
