Kenodog's post of a MINI cooper reminded my of a story I heard at work today. Our number 2 customer and his wife were on a trip across Canada when after the 2nd day he noticed that the motor home {with mini in toe} was sluggish. He blew it off and kept going. When after about an hour he heard a huge squealling. And the motor home was steering funny/poorly. He pulled over and his mini was riding on 4 flat spoted tires and smoke shooting out from under the hood. Apparetly the wife befor leaving put the car in 1st gear! The engine got so hot it was blue when the mechs took it apart. $20,000 cdn, estimate for repairs. Wow. I'd kick her in the shins and tell her to walk home! Ouch, the poor mini was attacked by a woman! |

At least it wasn't a P-CAR!!!! Personally, i hate minis so the car got what it deserved Should have been a civic with a giant park bench bolted to the back. _________________ 90 944 S2

Leaving the car in 1st gear is bad, but not checking the car beforehand is worse and not stopping immediately when he thought the motor home was sluggish was more stupid yet.
Also, how would all tires be flat-spotted? Mini's are FWD, the woman would have to have left the parking brake on too for the rear tires on the Mini to get flat-spotted.
Aaron
EDIT: And if the tires were flat-spotted, then they weren't rotating, so the engine wasn't being spun. And if the engine were being spun, then so must the tires be, ergo no flat-spotting. _________________ Shifting is an art, learn it, love it, live it.

Think about that. If the Rv is going lets say 60mph. How fast are the front tires spinning? How many rpm is the engine spinning? Lets say they hit 40mph in 1st gear at redling. That is an extra 50% over redline. If the redline is 7k rpm then the enging is spinning at 10500 rpm. _________________ 90 944 S2

My neighbor did the same thing with his S-10 Pickup. He sold his house and was taking off in his motorhome. I put a new engine in it (the S-10) just days before he took off to the tune of a couple $grand. He called me from the top of the pass, 60 miles from home, all pissed off at me because the truck caught fire! After I got him to calm down I told him to check to see if it was in gear after they got the fire out. I got a sheepish call back an hour later. He tried to blame it on his wife too but I am pretty sure he did it!

On my way to work awhile ago I saw a car in a ditch a motor home pulled over on the shoulder and the driver running back to the car in the ditch that used to be attaced to his motor home.
I've seen pictures of a 911 that was being towed on a flatbed trailer that wasn't hooked up right. The trailer came off the motorhome and wound up in a wooded area amazigly not hitting any of the trees.
If the engine had turned blue in color then it most likely siezed. Althougth that doesn't explain the other tires being flatspoted.
The scariest thing I seen was a guy on a moped towing a trailer. |

lmfao!!!
hey 78porsche924, don't pick on mini's they're cool little cars! The new ones though, they deserve destroying, abominations....
I bought a 1988 mini, my first ever, 6mths back after repeated breakdowns of the bike i used to comute to work on, the mini's a little 998cc and it's got about the same acceleration as a slug... but man is it top for getting a young family around town, we've 3 kids aged 4, 7 and 9 and they all fit comfortably in the back so it's suprisingly roomy.... it corners like a go-kart so on winding country lanes you can attack them flat out (just aswell, see my note on acceleration!)... I do a 60+ mile round trip to work and it costs me pennies in petrol, plus when the traffic is bad i can weave in and out of the gaps to get through quickly...
Only downsides are there's no real luggage space and the little things suffer terribly with rotting to death... still most of the parts come free with selected packs of cornflakes (ie very cheap)... |

| I only heard the story, I didn't see the car. Maybe when the front locked the car got a little fish tailish and got scuffed a bit. I don't know but I would have like to have seen the car! |
