HI everyone.
I sent an email to the Phantom grip LSD people ad it looks like a nice alternative to the more expensive Quaiffe or Guard units.
Here is copy of the email and reply:
dear sir
the phantom grip 944 units have been tested over 500 whp and torque.
thank you

They said it has been tested at 500 hp and torque.......they never said it didn't fail with that much power

you pay for what you get the Quaiffe is a much better designed unit and will not destroy the internals of the tranny, not saying that the Phantom grip LSD unit will though _________________ 3 928s, |

Yeah, works great till it trashes the spider gears. A 951LSD is a cheaper alternative and will bolt into the 5-speed 924 trans (or the 931 trans), excluding the snailshells (which should use a 911 diff). They can sometimes be had for $500, though you can pay retail up to $1000USD. Quaifes are available new retail for $1200 or so from OG Racing (www.ogracing.com IIRC). _________________ Vaughan Scott

Has anyone actually used a 911 differential in a snailshell, or is this just theory?
I've read that the snailshell was based off the 915 tranny, but are the differentials interchangeable? Maybe we should start comparing part numbers |

I know for a FACT that the phantom grip is ineffective in a 340rwhp 951.
I know because we installed it in a customer's car and tested it. _________________ keith

Has this been documented? If so, great, if not, I don't want to be the guy who spends $1200 on a GT or Quiafe diff and find out I'm gonna get soaked for a few hundred if it doesn't work and I need to resell it...
Also, I'd be looking for a lower ratio than the stock 4.7:1... My goal is to use a 9000rpm engine, so I'd want a lower final drive ratio. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly
