I thought I saw in one of my catalogs that they have a big red brake conversion for the early 944? I can no longer find the catalog. Do the make the kit for the early 944? If so will it fit the 924?
I figure if I'm going to upgrade the brakes might as well put the biggest ones I can fit on. Thanks. |

yes you can change over to the big red and www.lindseyracing.com has a kit if I remember correctly but honestly you are going to have to fab up abit if you do it yourself, or spend a good $1500 - $2500 to get it done _________________ 3 928s, |

Why would you want or need braking like that unless your a chevy v-8 powered monster 924.Thats about $3000.00 in brakes all said and done. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I'm a firm beliver in upgrading you brakes and suspension before increasing the power of a car.
If I put the biggest brakes I can get on now then I wont have to upgrade again when I get more HP.
If I can ever get the time and money I want to shoehorn a race preped diesel into my 924. I can get alot more power from a diesel than a gas engine. I've got a freind with a 98 Dodge 5.9L Cummins 12V truck putting out almost 800HP to the rear wheels on standard diesel fuel. A few weeks ago I saw an 6 wheel cabover semi running high 13s in the 1/4 mile.
I also figured I paid 1300 for the car. A new truck that I would buy costs $50,000. So as long as I spend less than 48,000 to get my porsche where I want it I'm still saving over a new truck. |

| It depends on what engine I use. I know it wont be a 5.9L Cummins. Although I am looking at the new 6.0L powerstroke if they can ever get it to run. I haven't really started looking at what engine I want to swap in. I would like to have around 300cu in. but with turbos and surperchargers to fit I might go smaller and increase the boost to over 100psi to make up for it. I also need to get my fabrication skills up before I attempt an engine swap. |

I was shopping yesterday and saw a magazine cover which made me stop and stare. The mag was VW World or something similar. On the cover was a very mean looking VW Bug spinning LARGE rear tires with lots of smoke. I thought, I wonder why they have a wheelie bar?. I read on to find out that a 460 Ford V8 was installed to make a (hold on now):
450 HP VW Bug!!!!
I wonder what they had to do to fit THAT engine in the car. |

They probably put it in the boot, i.e., the front. _________________ '79 EUR 931 (Modified)

Standard 944 or M471 brakes should be more than enough to handle any engine you can get into a 924, unless you spend an awful lot on your engine and swap.
944 brakes can be had for a few hundred, and installed by anyone with simple hand tools over a weekend.
Besides, you'd probably need 944 spindles, or M471 spindles, if you want to upgrade to big reds. Same bolt pattern, different backing plate. |

I'm swaping in 944 brakes.
If I ever do the engine swap I'm want to the engine will be in the 600-800 HP range. It doesn't really take that much to make a diesel put out 2hp per cu in:) The biggest problem I see is the trany. I don't think a 924 trans will hold 1300 ftlbs of torqure and the gearing will be way off for a diesel. |
