Who in here, is the first person in the family to own a Porsche, and who got into them because their parents or siblings had one, and they liked it after they drove it?

here is my story:

My dad, when I was 8 years old, bought a 1968 911S. it was bright orange, and the license plate said "sunkist". it was sweet as hell. had a great black interior. absolutely gorgeous. However, I was 8 years old, and really didn't give a sh!t about cars. so after a while, he sold it, and got a boat.

then, in 1999, Dad was unable to waterski anymore, so he sold our second boat. traded it in, and used the money to buy a 1992 968 Cabriolet. by now, I had my drivers license. I was allowed to drive the car on RARE occasions, and I loved it. I had been a corvette nut before, but then started going to Porsche dealers to drool over the carrera cabs.

One day, I was drooling over a black on black on black 996 cab, and the receptionist at the dealership asked me if I wanted a job there, because one of the lot techs was recently fired. I filled out an application, and got the job. I worked there for 8 months, and I'd always wash the Porsches before the Jags...hey. keep the REAL cars clean. I eventually quit because the boss was a royal jackass.

Then, my friend bought a new MR2 spyder, and needed to unload his 1987 924S. Dad told me, if I could sell my Nissan Maxima in a week, I could buy the 924S. so, I put the Maxima in Yahoo autos. the next day, it was sold. I was surprised. it sounded like ass. had a collapsed lifter. but nonetheless, it was sold. so I bought mine.

Overall, between my father and I, the 924S is the 9th Porsche in the family, ranging from 914's to 911's, to our 968 Cabriolet, (which we still have, trying to sell for $24,000)

so I thank my Father for getting me into Porsches.

Im the first person to own a Porsche in my family. I was originally setup to get a '89 Ford Probe LX 5-speed that was an extra car that my dad had sitting at his garage. I was however looking into other cars like 5.0 mustangs, Mazda MX-6 and an '89 VW GTI (my dad had one of these back in the mid '90s. Very cool car, quick, handled very well and had a unique look to it. A week or two after i had gotten my license my dad had asked me "I just picked up a blue '89 Porsche 944 5-speed for a good price, would you want it?". I didnt know what to think as i didnt even know what the car looked like. Before i had a chance to see it, after further inspection by my dad and his mechanic their were alot of problems with the car found. The rear end at one point was bottemed out and a great deal of rust was eating through the floorboards. The car was sold, and my dad told me he would keep an eye out for a similar car. His friend miraculously was selling a silver '87 Porsche 924S, 3-speed auto and in pretty good shape. My dad bought this car for me, as i had spent a great deal of my savings rebuilding a '67 Ford Mustang. Thats how i got my 924S. My future plans are to purchase a 944T when i aquire a stable income out of college.

I am the first person in my family to own a Porsche (unless you count my son-in-law who had a 924 when he met my Daughter)
I had an 87 Escort I drove to work and used as a mini pickup as the big F250 w/460 ate so much gas. I was in the process of restoring/building a 1983 Bronco tha had a 69 429 installed by the PO and I rebuilt it for major low end torque and power. It was to be my work rig and hunting rig and all around utility rig. Then I started driving it and found out it only got about 8 MPG around town and still needs some attention to details .. no biggie as the escort works well for a work rig ... then Murphy made a big hole in a piston in the escort and I needed to decide if I wanted to run the Bronc or get another rig ... sure didn't want to rebuild the escort. I found an add for an 87 Porsche 924S for $1800 so I went to look at it and wrote the man a check.
Nice thing is I can park the Porsch under the bronco
Now soon as I get all the little bugs ironed out of the Porsche I can get back to finishing the Bronco and the 63 Vette Split Window that has taken a back seat for far too long

I'm the first for Porsche but the males in the family have always been speed driven. I started out looking at a 1982 7M-GTE Supra Turbo,
1988 Volvo 780 Turbo Coupe and a 92 Nissan 240sx. I drove by this 924 and had no idea what it was so I turned around and me and my pal Nick got out, kicked the tires and said "Porsche? For $7,500? WTF?" And 2 months later I F1'd it back to Halifax {120kms} And have liked it ever since.

First in my family to own a Porsche. Started out with the 914 because I made the mistake of sitting in one that a family friend was selling. I fell in love immediately and started half-seriously looking for one to tinker with and keep on the road for a while until I had my own place for a full restoration. I was driving through New Hampshire visiting my friend at Dartmouth and while driving on a back-country road near Sunapee I saw a 'teener peering over the top of a hill with a for sale sign on it. Looked the car over and saw that it was clean for a 914 and then went home to Ohio and promptly forgot all about it until about a month later when I finally decided to call the guy. The car was still there, so I figured that it must have been waiting for me.

The 924S came up during a half-hearted search for a replacement for my '88 Accord which had rusted through in the rear floor. Fell in love with the 924S too and at the time it looked like a bargain. (Since then I have put enough money into it to disqualify it from being a bargain.) The 924S, however, did not need to be flatbedded with my father's Explorer and a U-haul trailer that weighed more than the car across 800 miles.

I was the first in my family when I purchased an 80 924 NA in 1985. Actualy I bought it from my son in law who had traded a 68 Camaro for it. Since it was too small for his family and I needed something more reliable for my 90 mile daily commute, it was a perfect fit. Prior to that it was Mustangs (Mach I and Grandee), Corvettes (62) and Spitfires. Think I'll stick with Porsches.

I am the first in my family as well. Bought the car from one of my son's, friends brother. He used to swing by the house occasionally. Only when he could afford to get it and keep it running for any length of time. He was in University and funds were apparently quite limited.

I first fell under the spell of Porsche when I was road racing motorcycles as a kid at Mosport. I'd never seen any car corner the way that particular 911 did around that track. I decided then and there that if there was ever any way I could, I would own one some day.

So it's not a 911. It is a Porsche and it is parked in my garage. When the kid started complaining about a lack of funds to keep the car on the road I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. That was 5 years ago and though I haven't actually carved any corners with it yet I will soon thanks in part to the advice and help of many people like the ones reading this story who share the passion.

I'm the first that I know of in my family to own a Porsche. My first car was an '84 Dodge Aries (All hail the K car! ) Let me say this, anyone who has had the misfortune of owning this particular feat of American engineering might understand why I defend Japanese cars so much. My dad has an accord and I relied on that as my weekend transportation (The Aries couldn't keep up with my friends...I maxed it out one time at 83). So, because they felt so bad for making me drive that POS, I received my '87 924S as a graduation present...and birthday...and christmas...and the birthday after that...and the christmas after that. When we received the car, after one week, some problems became apparant. Another year of holidays down the drain I guess

I'm the first person in the family to own one. My mom was coming back from her lunch break, and took a shortcut through a residential neighborhood. She spotted a gray Porsche (she didn't know the model when she first saw it), and it had a for sale sign on the back, barely visable through all of the dust on the car. She came back, told me about it, and I got really excited. I called the owner, he said he was moving to Japan in 2 days, and the car was being sent to the junkyard the next day, If I can get my butt over there that evening, the car would be mine. I waited for my dad to come home, and begged him to let me buy the car, took me about 45 min to convince him (not too happy about loosing the garage) and then we drove over to buy the car. I quickly checked it out, it had some fluids on the driveway, little bit of oil and coolant. The owner said it leaked oil a little bit, and the starter motor was broken. Since the registration had expired, and there was no longer insurance on the car, we weren't able to push start it home. My dad and I went inside, bargained down to $350, and called a tow truck. I ordered a starter the next week, and got to work, all the god damn shields were in the way, and since I didn't have a lot of time to work on the car (school) it took me about 3 weeks to replace the starter. I let my brother change the oil on the car, and he did it from the wrong hole (Oil return line on the Turbo model) and then crossthreaded the bolt. Got an oil pan on ebay for 10 dollars, spent another month installing that, new gaskets, hoses, vacuum lines, belts, rotor, cap, plugs, filters all went in the car. Took me a while to get it started (various timing problems). Finally got the sucker running about a month ago, did the timing all correctly, played around with the mixture. This week I'm finishing up registration, getting an alignment, and fixing my clutch cable. After all that, the total should come to $1010, including the price of the car. Anyways, I kinda made a short question into a long answer...oh well.

I am the first also. I have just graduated and my parents agreed to buy me a project car. I was origonally looking for something in the $500 cdn range but after looking at a couple rust buckets they decided that I could borrow more from them so I will save money down the road. I called about a jaguar xj6 and started looking for adds for an old mercedes, I saw an add for a porsche 924 and didn't know much about the car, but it claimed it was in good working order and only $2500. I decided that it would be worth taking a look and was suprised but the lack of rust on the car. I decided to buy it and gave the owner $2500. After a couple days or driving, it felt like it was surging and the problem got worse and worse. So now, beacuase I couldn't diagnose the problem, it has been waiting a fuelpump relay for a couple of days to arrive. Hopefully moday. I would have REALLY been in trouble without alot of help of Rogor, who sent me a fuel distributer for a heck or alot less then what the mechanic was origonally telling me.

my stepdad got me into them. he had about 5 924's at one stage and still keeps alot of parts that i pilfer for my own ends
he graduated to 944's about 6 years ago and started racing a US spec 944 and had a euro 944 road car.t with his track car he did a tranny and engine swap from a euro 944 so he could stay competitive with the other euro 944's.
he still has the 944 roadcar but now races a '78 911SC. Mum curses the day she saw that badge! She doesnt understand. All she sees is the breakdowns (often with my car and the 944) and the bills

I got into Porsches a little later than most, first in my family.
My wife got tired of me watching football, basketball and drinking beer on the couch every weekend. She asked me if there was anything I wanted to do as a hobby and I had to do some soul searching back to my younger days.
I always wanted to get a Lotus and restore it. A quick search told me that it was out of my budget so I started looking for another sports car that would be "worth fixing up". It looked like Porsche would fit the bill. I started looking for a 944 and found one. The ad said "Porsche 924, 944. $2500 for both". I didn't know if he meant each or both. Not knowing how much they were worth I checked out the 944 and at the same time and found out he meant BOTH. Neither was roadworthy and I offered him 1K for the 944. He said NO, he wanted to sell them both. I declined.
I called my brother a few days later (who by the way holds the speed record for Studebakers at Lions Drag Strip, now gone but not forgotten) and he said "just buy both, fix the 924 and sell it and you will have a 944 for free. Sounded like a great idea and the guy still had both cars. I was going to give him the whole $2500 but he cut me off and said $2000. He delivered both to my house, with transferred title (I still don't know how he did that without me) and now I watch football, basketball, drink beer and work on Porsches.
