is it feasible to eliminat the headlight bar between the lights and use two motors a'la 914:
i recall my 924n/a had the motor on the right side and my turbo has it on the left side... or will the n/a hl motor interfere with the fuel distributor? if so, would 914 units work?
TIA! _________________ '86 944

Everything is possible.
The reason the turbo motor is on the left is the fuel distributor gets in the way if you try to put it in place on the right side.
Like wise the air cleaner box is in the location the headlight motor would be in the n/a.
Why do you ask - are you having problems getting the lights to go up and down.
When I had the new nose put on the 944 it took about 30 minutes to get the linkage etc setup and gaps about right. It's not an easy job as getting to the bolts is fiddly. My body shop guys didn't want to do it as the last one they did just about drove there guy mad.
Once the linkages were setup the connecting of the motor is easy but just check that the fibre wheel driving the linkages isn't worn. What happens is if you get a light catching slightly on something the motor can still drive the light up and down but each time it reached that point it wears a bit of the fibre gear away until it just gets to that point and won't be able to drive over it. My 44 motor was like that. I've remade the fibre wheel once before on the GT headlight motor and when I set up the 944 found the wheel was worn so swapped over with my spare n/a headlight motor. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

nah, just until i saw the above 914 pic i had never put much thought to how the 914's popups worked. when i took my headlight assy out i thought it made a huge how much cleaner it looked without the bar stretching the width of the engine bay.
other than fixed headlights, i thought this would be another way of eliminating the bar and its linkages. I like the idea of fixed headlights but i recall the problems you encountered with their use on your race car and i cant really justify going to all the trouble for a daily driver. _________________ '86 944 |

A friend of mine had a 914 with pull cables attached and took out the motors. I like this idea. I don't know if he still has the car. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
