I am going to need new spark plugs. I have been told i should probably run hotter plugs because i got a turbo. What would any of you recommend? I plan on getting a msd blaster 2 coil if that makes any difference from jegs. Also what are the specs as to sizes and stuff like that.

Thanks
Bobby

I believe hot plugs are for city driving ,(alot of short trips .) they get hot fast to burn off deposits . if you do mostly highway miles you want the cool plugs .

O, lizard said it sounded like i needed hotter plugs because my engine to cut out at higher rpms with the pedal down. I know there is something up with the ignition because it got better once i fixed a contact of the ignition wire on my battery. Still not all that great though.

Oh, sorry man. Good thing u caught this post before i did something stupid. I am going with that coil anyway. I need to replace my spark plugs cause they are kinda old. Are the bosche 4+ platinum really worth the money? Which part number would be best for my car if they are or how do i find out?

thanks
bobby

They are not the best plugs out there. They are a coper core plug. I am not really a beliver in multiple electrode plugs. I think platinum pugs are better but thats only because they can last longer. More spark more horsepower? More spark better gas millage? I doubt it does much. Once the gas is ignited it is going to burn at the same rate. I have read this before but I may not remember it correctly. Hotter plugs have a longer insulator to withstand higher temps in the combustion chamber. Mostly to keep from burning the plugs under extreme driving conditions. I also doubt that a better coil adds much. The stock coil operates at something like 10,000 volts. I am not really sure about that number, but the point is that once the gas is ignited it still burns at the same rate. If you are going to replace the system upgrading is a good idea, but will it make much difference for average driving conditions?

the bosch platnum +4 are nice plugs but I don't like how the electrode is surrounded by insulation, makes it to prone to high speed glazing, which is a film that conducts electricity, lowering the amount of spark.

speaking of which does anyone have a dual spark setup on there car and does it help?

I read somewhere that the only perfomance improvment from the +2 or +4 plugs are on the Turbo or Multi-valve cars otherwise you are throwing your $ away and even the platinum is most advantougeus where you have diffcult acess to the plug i.e. some trans mounted V6 engines mainly FWD cars.

the hotter spark does make abit of a difference, and on a failing system it makes a big difference
