Put my car on jacks over the weekend and was going to change tranny oil with Casteroil 85w 140. I thought I would ask the board for advise on the best weight to use. so I stopped. The car shifts great now and is a little stickey after hrs of driving, drive it mainly on the freeway, and it don't go out hardley in the winter. oyea! the fill and drain plugs came right out, the drain was a little sticky but did come loose. It seems that everthing on this car has been fairly easy to work on, and I luv it. I need to start doing some work on the shocks etc. this year. Thanx Chris _________________ 924 man and luv it |

| You will get your best results using a synthetic tranny fluid like Redline or Swepco. In my gearbox, the synchros were complaining but after a few hundred miles with Redline they shifted much better. It has to do with the friction coefficent of the fluid and how it allows the synchro halfs to grab togther and spin as one. It really made a big change for me. Don't let the price dissuade you, about $9.00 a quart. I used the MT-90. You can go to Redline's web site and read more. Also shifts better when cold outside when first starting out. |

I agree. I put Redline in a week after I got the car, and it shifted like a new transmission about a week after that. it's great stuff. I'm about to do a gear oil change again, I'm puttin more in. BTW, what's the usual gear oil life? how often does it require changing? keep in mind, I race it, so the oil gets a lil hotter than it normally would. _________________ Porschephile at home=Carnut 280 |

| I use Mobil 1 synthetic on mine. Have used it for the past 3+ years. Great shifting when cold. I think it was 75W-90. It does make a huge difference when you go to synthetic. Don't be afraid of leaking. From by experience most 924 transmissions are leak proof, maybe it has something to do with not receiving so much engine heat like a front engine front transmission setup. |

I used Swepco and I am very happy. _________________ 1981 924 NA
