Me and my friend want to try our hand at painting his car. I know the basics about it but would like a lot more information. Does anyone here know of any good sites for this info or any type of a forumn. We know it wouldn't be the best job done but he has the typical beater 3rd gen firebird in a desperate need of a paint job. We figure we couldn't make the car look any worse then it already does. He is broke and we feel like having some fun. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now painting is where my skills are. One word of wisdom. If this is the first car you guys will paint, it will be a poor job. I'm sure you are a normal guy and thinking "how hard can it be?" It isn't that it's hard, it's that it's tricky. Like painting on a canvas, it takes skill and practice. My first time I had paint streaming down the side of the car! Use slow steady hands and lots of good luck.

white paint is the cheapest ,about $25 a quart/liter, you'll need about a quart of paint and 2-3 quarts of the right thinner for the paint you buy . check the links section for more info .

Thanks, i really appreciate the help. And his car is white so that is good. He has an air compressor and we can probably get a paint gun from somebody we know.

Painting is 90% preparation and 10% spraying.

If its available in your area, I would suggest an evening class at a local vo tech. Should not cost much and sometimes they even let you paint your car during class.
