Ok, last question for the night. What is the stock boost level on a 81 924 turbo? I have seen mine hit nearly 15psi. That seems incredibly high for a non-intercooled turbo. And what does the stock boost gauge look like? Min eis a VDO unit that read from 30inches of vacuum to 15psi of boost. I just assumed they would read in Bar? Thanks again.

stock boost is .4 bar roughly. the gauge is not stock, it was added. And what does it read at idle? There are two ways a boost gauge reads (if I remember this right) one is calibrated for sea level and should read zero at idle, and there are the ones that will show a vacum at idle. It is late so my memory is waining.

Yeah, if that's correct reading, you're hitting 1 bar boost!!! (14.7psi=1 bar)
I'd suspect a bad wastegate/mechanism id this is true.
The Carrera models only hit like 0.8bar boost - does the car scream and ping like mad when you hit 1bar??? :)
