I just got in the diaphragm for the CIS meter. I pulled apart the meter head and the original ( I assume) diaphragm looked ok, no tears; but stretches of course.
So I put the new diaphragm in and reinstalled everything.
I turned on the fuel pump and only got 20psi. I closed the control valve and pressure didnt go up stayed the same.
Oh no did I screw up the Fuel distributor? NOooooooo
Well I tried to start the car, took a couple of tries and it barely ran, and died a couple times as I tried to mess with it. I had to hold the throttle with my hand while I made adjustments trying to get it to stay running.
So I eventually get it to run, but its running rough and the Control pressure is still 20 psi. I was able to get a good A/F reading. but it never ran smooth and seemed to be missing.
So my first question would be what could I have screwed up? (I only replaced the Diaphragm, didnt take the center core of the fuel distributor out (the part with the 4 ports/slits)
BUT WAIT:
So I adjusted everything every which way trying to get the control pressure up, and the car to run decent. eventually as the car warmed up, the Control pressure started to rise just a little near 30.
I shut the car off, and wait a few minutes, then i go turn the Fuel pump on and push on the Meter Plate, I see the Pressure go up for a second...
Then I close the Control pressure lever to check system pressure, don't even really know why at this point. But then I see the system pressure start to rise....40....50....80...90....100!! Ok what?? I open the lever and I now all of a sudden its holding at 40 or 50 (I forget now) It was almost like something "popped". and now its at good pressures (I have to readjust everything again) I tried increasing the WUR control pressure so Now I need to decrease it.
So what could have caused this? Do systems normally need adjustment after the CIS rebuild? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

well started the car again the next day, and it ran better, Had to re tune it.
at one point (with the car off) I turned the pump on and did some full stroke push on the meter plate and "flushed" the system/injectors. Kind of seemed like there was an air bubble maybe??
Other thing to note is that now the system holds pressure after shut down, which I did not expect since I figured the Accumulator was bad.
haven't driven the car again yet. _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

| I saw your post and had a question. I just rebuilt my Fuel Distributor for my 1981 Porsche 924. Put it back in and tried to start it. It would fire and run a second or two then die. I suspect it was running on the cold start fuel burst. I have not run pressure checks yet and that may tell me something. My question to you is: do you have to reset the 3mm mixture screw to some number of turns before trying to start? Maybe I just have an airlock problem like you did. Thanks |
