So, I bought a 1981 924 base that has been sitting for a while. Ive gone through it trying to get it to start and need a little expertise here.
I started with the fuel delivery system and have that going with new injectors, cleaning the Jetronic system out, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new fuel lines and everything there is now working properly (thank whatever deity is responsible for old porsches).
Next I have moved into the electronics, the guy seems to have screwed with something in the electric systems as when I plug in a battery all the exterior lights come on no matter what I do, so for now I have removed all the fuses for the unnecessary components and removed the aftermarket radio that seems to have been wired in by a squirrel. Im just trying to get her to run and move at this point (lights are for the weak).
Engine has compression, fuel, I think I have the timing right but there is no mark on the crankshaft pulley so I moved piston 1 to TDC on compression stroke then moved the cam timing into position via the mark (car came without a timing belt).
Lastly I have no spark making it to the plugs, I installed a new rotor, dist cap, wires, and spark plugs as the old ones quite obviously needed replacing. The ignition coil I think is good I put my multimeter to it and Im getting .9 ohms across 1 to 15 terminals and 3.25k ohms from the coil.
The car cranks well but ive got absolutely no spark, Im thinking it is the ICU thats bad or the computer but I don't know how to test them and would prefer not to replace things for no reason. So any advice is appreciated to get this girl back on the road. (theres so much more wrong but hey we will start with getting the engine running)
Thanks guys |

I am by no means an ignition expert, but after running the tests in the Haines based on my no spark condition, I managed to isolate the ignition sender in the distributor as the culprit. Once I replaced the distributor with a rebuilt one (I didn't feel comfortable trying to install a new ignition sender in my existing distro), I had healthy spark.
Not sure if this it the case for you, but I highly recommend the ignition tests in the Haines if you haven't already gone through them. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 NA Petrol Blue

David,
Where did you get a rebuilt dizzy?
I have an 81 so it's different, but I couldn't locate much. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |
