Hi all,

I finally decided to tackle my wipers. I hated the fact that the second speed was marginally less slow that the first, an no cleaning of the linkage or adding an extra ground path made any noticeable difference. In heavy rain, that thing was plain useless.

I installed a different wiper motor, out of a VW Polo III (6N1), readily available in any scrapyard here. Only downside/fitment issue was the shorter output shaft of that motor. The original crank wouldn't clear the hex bolts holding the motor to the bracket, causing the whole thing to bind.

So I found a more cranked crank ( out of my spares box, from a Fiat ) that clears the bolts fine. And presto - wiper speed arrived in the 21st century Yay!!!

Really happy with that mod, especially at the cost of a few EUR, as opposed to the outlay of 500plus an original replacement motor from Porsche would cost.

Let me know if you want more info.

Cheers,

Eliza

Good call - I find my wipers to be utterly useless unless I'm parked, thank God for Rain-X. Though, admittedly, the way the car dribbles on my feet, I don't tend to like running it in the rain anyway...

Will have to keep my eyes open for one of those Polo motors when good weather returns...

Can you post a pic of the new motor with the fiat crank on it please? I would like to do a similar upgrade.

Sorry Tiny, I have no hosting space available.

PM me an oldschool email address and I'll send you a picture.

Just don't expect anything extra special - I just used a crank which fits on the 8mm output shaft and is "bent"a bit so as to clear the 3 bolt heads on the bracket ( the bolts that are bolted into the motor, below the bracket. ) Does this make any sense at all ?!?
Yes, maybe a photo is not such a bad idea after all.

Cheers,

Eliza

Faster still - do a google picture search on wiper motor crank arm, you'll see what I mean.

Sometimes I'm reminded that English is NOT my mother tongue
