Recently purchased a '87 924S and have now gotten to replacing the parking brake cable. (The bolt that held it to the handle snapped due to rust) Thought it would be an easyish fix but have now run into trouble.

I have removed the right rear caliper in order to get to the long cable to swap it out for the new one. Problem is now that I released the expanding bow I dont have room to free it due to it being caught behind the wheel hub.

Maybe I'm just going about it wrong but I feel like I cant release the old cable from the bow without getting more room to access it by removing the wheel hub. This however some of you may know is locked with a 350lb torque locking nut. I don't think I will be able to remove the locking nut without buying a few things and definitely wont be able to install a new one.

So my real question is has anyone replaced their parking brake cables and run into the issue, and if so what was your fix? Any other help or suggestions would be appreciated.

This is a link for the rennlist board I was going off of just so you can get a visual. http://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/735639-disconnecting-parking-brake-at-hub-solved.html Just can't get the expander to fall out as stated above.

Thanks in advance

I have now managed to free the cable from both the car body and the brake hub. Now my next big issue is the tubing/housing for the existing cable seems to be mounted to the car, and thus unable to remove...

Perhaps I am going about this wrong and it is very simple to remove, if anyone has been able to remove their old parking brake cable and its housing to replace it with a new cable let me know.

Also if it is possible to remove the cable from the old housing and insert a new cable, please suggestions and help would be much appreciated as I feel this may be the path I have to take. Either way any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
NOJ

Sorry there isn't much help here. I've only ever adjusted the cable, never actually had to replace one. That said, I will be doing this job soon on my current project car, but I haven't gotten that far yet...

I'll let you know where I get once I finish, if no one ends up having any advice or tips. Hope to add a how to when finished.

Thanks, I can't wait to read the 'How-to'! I'm looking forward to reading it, but I'm not very excited to have to change the cables!
