|
|
Hi there,
So I've been having starting problems which I believe are to do with the fuel. (I have read the mechanical fuel injection page )
I can start the car when I bypass the Fuel Pump Relay 30 and 87 terminals, however I have now been through multiple new relays to no avail.
I am wondering if anyone has had similar problems or advice on where to look next?
I also recently discovered, in the wiring loom, that someone has bypassed the fuel pump fuse altogether and wondered if this would be causing the issue, or damaging the relays?
This is my first project car so I'm afraid I might need Lehman's terms
Thanks for any help

Yeahhh, pretty sure my 79's been wired up the exact same way...
I believe that every previous owner in the history of 924's thinks they're the next nikola tesla
Anyway I've always dealt with dodgy fuel relays for years now, and rewiring the entire fuel system is on my todo list. In the meantime, I've found that a fused relay from a '78 keeps the fuel pump running on mine when the key is turned _________________ 1979 924 NA

Thanks Dubrict,
Do you think this will also fit a 1984?
Also having a bit of trouble finding one here in the UK, do you happen to have a part number for it?
Cheers _________________ 1984 Porsche 924 na |

I've found in my 82 931 that sketchy connections/corrosion at the connections, including for the pump fuse, have caused the relay to seem dodgy... since rewired a new fuse holder outside of the stock fuse box, no long any problems there (and still using a stock relay, otherwise stock wiring). _________________ Vaughan Scott

I don't know, but the nature of wiring hack jobs is that no two are alike. I doubt what works for mine will work for yours.
What you really need is a wiring diagram and a lot of patience _________________ 1979 924 NA

I'd go with 924racr's suggestion and check the terminals first. Also check the wire ends on the fuel pump (near the real right wheel) and look for where the PO may have hacked around at, possibly along the door sill on the driver side (at least on left hand drive models) and where the wiring passes through the body under the trunk mat. I wouldn't be surprised if you found some chafing _________________ 1979 924 NA

Yes, very common. That was the source of my headlight and horn problem recently. _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA
