Hello all,

Situation:

The fuse/relay mounting has came off from it's original mounting point ever since a new battery tray was welded in.

Here it is, showing the 2 hanging points either side:

I don't really want to drill holes through the battery tray, to reattach it, as I'm scared that when it rains, water will find it's way through. Here's the battery tray area:

The welders I have spoken to also don't want to weld under there because of the risk of fire / electrical damage.

Any advice or suggestions here to fix it?

Cheers,
Tiny

I would need to look to see what might be possible (to see if there is room) but this is what popped in my head

Can you rivet to a larger piece of sheet metal and use a structural adhesive (epoxy) to glue that piece under the tray. Or, maybe you could strap the sides to something you attach sideways. Again, I have to look and see what might work. I would not want to drill holes either.

If drilling holes is the only way, then I would seal the metal with some paint, then put some silicone sealant in the hole and a smidge on the screw to help seal the hole.

this would be as a last resort.

Perhaps liquid metal sealant (bonding) stuff might work to reattach it.

I also thought maybe you can build a bracket that attaches to the frame but mounts elsewhere

Yes, I like the idea of making a bracket that mounts elsewhere.
I'll take another look with that in mind tomorrow.
Thanks guys

IIRC there's not a lot of wiring loom to reposition the fuse box much.

I's suggest getting some flat alumium (aluminum?) and fold it in a manner that it can attach to the original position on the kick panel, and a new position under the dash.

It's easy to do with a vice and a shifting spanner (and some ingenuity).

Yes, that might work too, mounting the bracket to the kick panel.

Nice one, I'll check it out tomorrow..

I think that's worth a shot. Just be sure to get the most industrial strength version you can find...the adhesive as well as the "hooks and loops". All Velcro is not created equal...

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that either Paul.

I've just ordered some Heavy Duty Rock n' Roll velcro for a few pennies.

So we shall see..
