Apparently it decided to have fun with itself by attempting to merge with the exhaust header. From what I've been told, and what I've read, this is common.
I fixed it today and she's happily back on the road again

Feels great when you can turn situations around with little effort and little time. Cant wait for better weather to work on my cars. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Looks great, that reminds me of something: is there somewhere a tutorial/todo how to rebuild the battery-starter-cable or harness with PET-number: 047971224A ?
Because I think it's a weak spot of all 924's... _________________ 911SC - 1980 |

It's pretty straightforward, remove the old and recreate with new.
I used off the shelf battery cables from the local parts store and generic wire for the solenoid and alternator excite wires with new connectors. _________________ Stefan

Yeah this is common. What gauge wire did you use to rebuild? _________________ 1979 924 NA

I used 10 for most of it. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Seems to be common,, one of the first jobs I did on a 924 Im trying to resurrect was actually changing the wiring going from the alternator to the self starter since these looked toasted.. the alternator can still be seen dangling and not secured correctly on the attached photo too... |

How do you cover / prevent the new wires from heating?
I was thinking about something like this:
But I'm wondering if that will protect the wires from the heat. _________________ 911SC - 1980 |

Yep, if that's the high heat stuff, it's great. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)
