|
|
Hi Guys,
Need to replace cam belt as I don't know when it was done.
After removing the 3 bolts I cant seem to free it passed the water pump neck.
Thanks,
Robert.

Time to get out some vice grips and rip that bad boy off... I got mine off and never plan on putting it back on there. It's such a hassle to remove. _________________ 1980 931 ~ 67,000 miles |

takes a bit of work the first time, but you raise it up and past the upper cam gear, then pull it towards the front of the car to bring it out from behind the water pump.
I leave mine on since I would prefer to not get things jammed in my timing belt and also the engine looks a bit better with it on (after I painted it). _________________ Stefan

Thanks guys. I would prefer to keep it, just in case I'm working while the engine is on! Don't like the thought of the cam pulley tearing my fingers off! Lol.
Cheers Stefan, I was trying to remove it in an awkward fashion, straight out so I'll try what you said tomorrow. Good idea about painting it! Will definitely do that. I have some black barbecue paint, should do the trick!
Getting too cold here.

Hi Stefan,
How do you upload the actual photo from photo bucket rather than the link?
Cheers,

Got the bad boy out!!!
Thanks for the advice. A slight manipulating done the trick. I thought I would have to start loosening other belts!!
Cheers. _________________ Robert.

It's even more fun putting it back without damaging the paint _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

Personally i cut the bottom half away, and modified the holes a bit so it sits tight with only 2 top bolts. Easy to remove and put back. |

Yeah can't wait!!
Cam belt has a mark all the way round as though it has been rubbing on the cover which I think may be occurring near the oil pump area as the cover is narrower there. ( just a thought! )
May keep it off although it does look crude. Lol
Or butcher it half way down and refit. _________________ Robert.

Are you talking about the 2 little "wear marks" on the middle of it? Usually those are actually from the tensioner. Unless you're talking about an actual notch in the belt itself, in which case I have seen those on covers that are loose. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)
