|
|
Hi All!
My 79 924 has been running on a single DCOE 40 for over a decade now, (without a pressure regulator) and i decided to check fuel hoses while my fuel tank is down. To my surprise i saw the original fuel accumulator connected in the line between an aftermarket low pressure electric fuel pump and the carburator.
Does anybody even do that? Can i safely assume that the accumulator is only being used as sort of a coupling to connect the fuel pump output to the carburator? Maybe the accumulator is shot, hence its being used? I did blow through one end of the accumulator, and it felt like i was just blowing through an unrestricted tube.
I asked as i would like to remove the accumulator, unless it has any real use at all for my dcoe carburator??? I mean, i do realize their used for F.I. systems. But for carburators?? Thanks guys! _________________ 1979 924 U.S. version

I doubt the low pressure pump has enough oomph to even fill the accumulator. As you surmised, someone probably left it in place for convenience. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Your DCOE wouldn't use it, and like Rasta said, likely wouldn't be able to properly pressurize it anyway, if it was working.
I don't run any on my MegaSquirt EFI equipped car.
I just removed the original hoses and accumulator.
Carefully cut the old hose off the two fittings I needed by cutting the steel band on the hose near the end of the fitting.
I cleaned up the fittings to ensure they would seal properly.
Used braided stainless steel hose of the proper diameter and length (-6 I believe).
I used EFI-rated fuel clamps (not worm gear style clamps) on the two fittings I needed to run from the pump outlet to the fuel system inlet.
You should be able to do the same using rubber fuel hose, especially since you're running low fuel pressures.
Since Weber carburetors are pretty sensitive to fuel pressure, I'd recommend a proper regulator set to 3psi. _________________ Stefan
