OK, so I was looking at the large vacuum lines on the driver's side of the engine compartment near the fire wall, and found two of them that went through the fender well. Turns out that they go in and out of a charcoal canister mounted inside the left front wheel well. My local parts guy told me it is some sort of emissions deal, and could be removed.

Two questions:

a. Can I remove this?

b. If I do that , how do I route the vacuum lines if this thing disappears?

Also, Hanyes tells me to look for a vacuum cannister near the right front wheel well, but I can't find anything like that.

The charcoal canister can be removed without causing a running issue, the row cars don't have it. You may not pass emissions/inspection without it.

Find a vacuum diagram for a row car & follow it to remove all the lines. Don't just plug them, it will affect the gas tank venting

The vacuum canister is a 2-3" tubular black or green plastic tank with one round end and a flat end. It should have 1 vacuum line going to it.

There's no reason to remove it, and pollution from fuel vapors will far exceed tailpipe emissions if you do.
