For a while now I've been having a Porsche "Jones" again and my first choices were either a 931 or a 951 primarily because of my involvement with 924-005 but also because I like the style, handling and "affordability" if you can apply that adjective to any Porsche!!!

Last week I found a poor neglected orphan on CL and after making the proper arrangements and payments I have adopted her! She arrived this past Monday and I will need to make some serious decisions about her future!

To avoid redundancy I have started a page on my website and you may view her and her description here:

http://www.ttrstomtatalovichracingservices.com/page24.php

I'm not quite sure yet what the future holds for her but if she gets "Named" it will probably be bright!!!

It's good to be back in the Porsche Family again!

Cheers,
Tom

Black on black is nice, although for your climate, switching to a black-and-linen interior might be a really nice option. Does that sport wheel have the hub extender?

Really interested to see what you decide to do with your little orphan! Congrats!

The wheel does have the extender, about 32 mm. I was thinking about linen in Script for the interior as well because of the sun but then if I decide she's really a keeper I may choose something more unusual like red or a rich looking brown...who knows, that choice is probably six months to a year away!

Got the old girl up in the air so I could start evaluation of the chassis and brakes as well as look for leakages that you know are going to be there! Not too many surprises as the PO did try to describe a sway bar bushing issue that his mechanic told him about. Turns out the sway bar is disconnected from the left side link and the is a bushing totally missing from the right side! You can see some photos here:

http://www.ttrstomtatalovichracingservices.com/page24.php

I still haven't made any determination regarding this car or it's parts. My next step is to evaluate the engine and see if it deserves having a FOES performed while it is still in the car whereupon I'd get it running and "driving".

I must say one thing...I've gone over a fellow member's (edredas) thread regarding a 951 into 924S engine swap and it is quite tempting to say the least, however I'd find it hard not to do a CGT type of body on it !
Here's that thread if you're interested:

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=36902

We'll see what transpires in the near future.

Yeah, you need a BIG turbo and standalone first right?

Nah, I don't have any intention to track the car as I got that out of my system many years ago! The car won't be driven that often however it will be called upon for various types of duty so I'm not going to try to make it into a single purpose machine. Personally I think Porsche did quite a nice job with making the 951 as a multi purpose machine, tame enough to go to the grocery store but still having enough balls to enjoy those spirited drives through the mountains as well as cruising quite a bit above the legal limits on the long road trips. Besides, at this stage of my life even though I still like to play with toys I have found other things that interest me so as sacrilege as it may seem cars aren't my only priority anymore! I'll leave the mods to guys like you and I'll enjoy reading about your endeavors and results !

For sure. . .anyone's first move should be to devalue the car by 50%.

Yeah, I had one with a standalone and a ballbearing 60mm turbo.

It was an absolute pain in the ass to drive on the street.

Bigger is not always better.

Not to worry...back in my younger days I often made modifications to my cars to suit my tastes and desires for both performance and cosmetics. My cars are for me, if somebody else likes what I've done with them great, if not all I can say is "Oh Well"!

Now having said that it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate originality and purity in certain cars especially in terms of their value, after all a big part of my business was restoration of vintage sports and race cars. However concerning this particular 951 that has been "rode hard and put away wet" with 161K on the clock I'd only be fooling myself if I thought it was going to be a valuable classic during the time that I may own it, which is why I haven't decided to restore it or cannibalize it yet as evidenced by my earlier post regarding a swap !
