|
|
The shifter play in my '80 924 was sloppy to say the least, so I upgraded to a new shift lever from Only944, and also replaced the nylon cup under the mounting bracket.
This improved my ability to find the correct gear, and the car is driving much better; HOWEVER, every 10th shift into second gear from 1st on a restart, the engine "chugs"/strains like it's in the wrong gear. A quick step on the clutch, pop into neutral, and shift back to 2nd gear seems to correct the condition.
Is this the sign of a mechanical problem, or is it a case of me "accidently" finding 4th gear, since I'm very new to the car. Also, this seems to happen more when heading up hill, in lieu of being on a flat road.
I'm not having this situation in any other gear, and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks! |

Sounds like internal wear and damage. Sorry friend.
You could try changing the fluid to Swepco 201 and ensuring the shifter is adjusted properly, but I suspect you'll want to start shopping for parts and/or a spare transaxle. _________________ Stefan
