It has come to my attention (apparently many years late) that auto manufacturers are doing away with dipsticks. That's some fascinating Sh*t right there.
Go figure.
If anyone else has been living under a rock like me, now you know.

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

so how to you judge oil level? or is this some magic skill only auto shops can possible get right so u are just better to pay them silly amounts of money to check if you need to fill it up a touch?

This reminds me of an Audi auto trans I came across, which "they say" has life time oil in it and does not need to be serviced. I found it funny that 2 other manufactures that use the same tranny dont make the same claim. Anyway, when I went to ask someone about it I was told that what they were really saying, is that when your tranny needs to be serviced, you dont do it because it is "life time", and then when it blows up a while later your car is not worth fixing because a brand new tranny costs more than what the car is worth now. See... life time... the tranny does not need to be serviced in the cars working life. Interesting logic, I serviced it, figured it was probably better.

Yeah kind of sucks I had to suck it up and buy a VAG COM and OP COM reader the other day and an OBD2 cable to go with it. I had to do this just to reset a fault code putting an auto trans into limp mode because of intermittent low oil levels on hard cornering (the same trans that I was told didn't need servicing, and I serviced while I was at it). Makes it hard for the home mechanic. Also, some are better than others, the AUDI VW SKODA system is pretty good, so are the MERCEDES and BMW ones, but the OPEL GM system (particularly on older early 2000's models) is rubbish. Its so hard to work anything out from the 5000 fault codes it gives u from a single issue.

That is one of the reasons why i prefer all my cars old.
I drive two 924s and a 2000 Passat, that one still has an oil check stick and except ESP and ABS no electronic bullshit.

That's what they want... The big 3 are pushing to make it illegal to work on your own car now that everything is drive by wire. Seriously..

A computer/wiring malfunction can WOT your throttle or render it useless, steer your car for you or disable your ability to steer your car, activate your brakes or disable your ability to activate your brakes, +100 other little things.. This can all also be hacked/cracked easily..

Someone computer savvy can totally drive beside you on the highway and run you off the road with a laptop and bluetooth, car computer "firewalls" are almost non-existent, very poor hack protection, very easily hackable from a distance with bluetooth.. If your car can control it electronically it can be hacked, everything.. If you don't believe me say so and I'll link you to proof..

The NSA hasn't even asked for a back door yet its so easy (that I'm aware of).. Look at the UK with https and encryption being illegal, lmfao, don't get me started.. Trade just a bit more of your liberty for the promise of "safety"..

Oh no terrorists scary, yes mr gov't please do record all my calls and data communication so I can be safe, I don't need any privacy I trust you..

Did you know that the US gov't just passed a law stating that all cellular carriers have to provide the gov't with an off switch so the gov't can easily shut down all your phones at once in the blink of an eye?

CIS, manual steering, no ABS, SHA-256, and linux for the win..
