Hello All. New member here with a request for some info and guidance in putting a '87 924S back on the road. I have some experience restoring antique motorcycles and slot machines but nothing on Porsches. Any and all help/guidance will be greatly appreciated. First off my fuel tank leaks, (gasoline smell anytime the tank is more than half filled. I'd like to swap out the tank for a plastic tank, (I think mine is metal), and am wondering if the 944 tank will fit and if so, what's involved? Also, is it necessary to drop the transmission to get the old tank out/in?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Yup, you can make the 944 tank fit. Search Rasta Monsta and 944 tank, he's the resident expert on that swap!

Maybe your tank is leaking...maybe not. I had the exact same problem and it turned out the be the charcoal canister near the front drivers side wheel. I changed it and also changed out the hose that attaches to it out for a new one and the problem went away. When you fill up the tank past the half way point more pressure is being built up. If the charcoal canister is all clogged up then the pressure has nowhere to go and gasoline fumes get created.

Thank you both. Will check out both of your suggestions. I have plans on replacing all the fuel lines, etc.

Yes you have to remove the transmission to remove the tank.
