bought an 81 924 a few weeks ago with lots faults one of them being a flooding out on a steady throttle when warm at over 2k rpms.
studied up on the kjetronic system and while i waited for the new test gauges i ordered to arrive i tried new injectors in it at the spray pattern when i did a static test on them was a straight line form rather than a cone shape pattern to the spray.that sorted a hot restart iussue i also had but still flooding as before on a steady throttle.
after trying the fuel solenoid underneath the metering head last night i think i finally have the running issue sorted.
though id post up the cure incase anyone else having the some problems.
got to get it to the road for the ultimate test soon after this car being off the road for 12 years. _________________ 1981 924 |

Hi Dogleg!
So did you test the actual fuel delivery quantity to each cylinder to check if it was equal or not.
Also could you please clarify what you were referring to about the fuel solenoid under the metering unit.
Hot restart issues often caused by bad accumulator and or check valve.
Did you get your fuel test gauge yet?
Cheers! _________________ 81 RED 931 S2(daily driver),81 WHITE 931 S2(not currently drivable).

hi knobby
didnt do the check with the amounts between each of the injectors becuause the car was running perfectly most of the time just running very very rich when trying to hold a contant steady throttle above 2k rpms when hot.
i knew once i had fitted the new injectors and the fault was still there it had to be a control pressure issue...think low system pressure= rich mixture.
not sure what the solenoid is called but i bought a used metering head for a 924 used parts specialist and it came with it.
seems to have completely fixed the problem.a hynnes manual came with the car but doesnt seem to cover this part at all. it seems to set the pressure in the metering head.
have the new gauge kit now.might check the readings im getting but it seems to be running perfectly now.nice to have the gauges anyway ive a 928 using the same system and a friend with a 635i so itl come in handy at some stage. _________________ 1981 924 |

Low system pressure = lean, system pressure = pressure to your injectors..
Low control pressure = rich, control pressure = pressure fighting against the control plunger attaches to the metering plate, higher control pressure = more resistance to air plate movement thus higher control pressure = less plate movement and vice versa..
I believe that this is the solenoid you are talking about, I can't seem to get the quote to work with anything added to it so see my next post.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified

Can anyone tell me what this valve is for please. |
[copy/pastes]
HSV = HOT Start Valve (Related to fuel pressure (WUR))
The HSV is also known as SSV (Supplementary Start Valve)
…also known as the Hot Start Solenoid, even Electric Solenoid…
It was added there since the 1979 models.
Lets stick to HSV.
Hot Start Valve is what the 924 Workshop Manual calls it, and what it does?
Reduction of Controle Pressure During Hotstart.
The Haynes brings it up unimaginative as the Electric Solenoid…?
page 87 Haynes, Chapter 3 Fuel, emission control and exhaust systems, §20 Electric solenoid.
page 88 Fig. 3.27 Fuel system electrical connection (1979 - on)
It's powered (terminal 50 (same as CSV)) during starting and triggered by a temperature switch (make ground) in the coolant line when hot; 45°C (138°F).
You should hear a -click- up front when starting the engine if it's hooked up propperly and the coolant switch is warm.
I can't be helpfull on your #2 subject, but #1 is not likely the cause of wet sparkplugs.
Regards, Harm. |
