|
|
A few weeks ago my clutch completely failed. the car will no longer shift into any gear i put it. When i put it in 5th gear and take my foot off the pedal standing still with the engine running you think it should stall right? wrong it keeps on idling as though it is in neutral.
So im trying to change my clutch. and everything has gone well so far got everything removed until i get to my transmission. im dropping my transmission at the moment and to unhook the drive shaft from the drive shaft spindles but the bolt is facing the other way. Now what i found in my haynes manual was to rotate the rear wheels to rotate the drive shaft yet when i rotate the rear wheels they rotate freely and the drive shaft dosent turn.
Any ideas on how to rotate the drive shaft so i can get to the coupler bolts in the transmission? |

I wedge something between the bellhousing and clutch fork. Or have someone step on the clutch pedal. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I usually just turn the engine but that won't work for you if the clutch is blown out.
The trans needs to be in gear for the wheel turning method to work, the input shaft has to be engaged.
Depending on what tools you have, you may be able to get a wrench on the coupler to turn it that way. |

As Grenadiers said. Even with a blown clutch, you need someone to depress the clutch in vehicle while you turn the wheels. I've got a car with a shredded rubber clutch in my shop as we speak that idles like it's in neutral when in any gear, yet I cannot rotate the shaft without someone holding the pedal in.
I hope that helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Lol, engage fifth gear and have an assistant hold one wheel while you turn the other...the drive shaft will turn. _________________ Toofah King Bad
