So, I was doing research this morning on engine bay cleanup, and came across this incredible thread on another forum, and had to share it with you guys.

D.I.Y. Detail your engine bay.

Unbelievable! About to try it, so I'll report back on whether I get similar results.

A pressure washer will speed up the process. Let the wd40 or engine degreaser emulsify the dirt & grease first. I got similar results in a couple hours.

It said in the article it took him 4 days. I wonder if the wd-40 residue will tend to attract dirt?

I don't recommend a pressure washer. Too many times I have seen cars not work right after they pressure washed it. Water got in somewhere and screwed something up. And yes they did take precautions and covered up all electrical parts and still there were problems.

Obviously not well enough.
You have to be smarter that the tool you're using. If you wrap everything properly & avoid direct contact it will be fine.

..and herein lies the problem...people who THINK they are smarter than the tool they are using. What if they aren't? They would not even know...would they? Result: Their car does not work right after the wash.

The same can be said for anything.
So from now on let's not suggest anyone work on their own car because they could do it wrong. What if they put the timing belt on wrong....bent valves. Do steering, suspension or brakes wrong & you could die or kill someone else- so all that is out.....
Let's just ban all diy on the forum to be safe.

First, you can't put a ban on diy projects. So that makes no sense at all. However, letting people know the possible consequences of doing something allows them to make their own personal choice to decide whether or not it is a good idea to tackle that project.

Just did my engine bay and wheels with WD-40, couple hours worth... With a paint brush I got the fuel dizzy pretty clean, and did the 931 nose grills this way...

Come to think of it I haven't taken any recent pics of it in a while...
