|
|
I have, in the last week, developed a cold start problem. When it is hot outside the car will not hesitate to start. In the colder mornings (near freezing temps) it will turn over and maybe spit or cough one or two times. I can shoot a little starting fluid near the intake and then it'll fire up after a few tries. Doesn't take much.
However, it'll only do this on cold mornings. It'll start every single time.
- Did a tuneup yesterday (plugs/wires/cap/rotor) with zero change.
- Replacing the coil later this week as part of the tuneup, haven't yet
- Checked for vacuum leaks, findings are none.
I'm a bit baffled. Am I looking at a faulty temp switch? or faulty cold start injector? _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Check your battery connections and have the battery checked out as well. _________________ MOD

Terminal connections are good and recently cleaned. The starter isn't failing to turn or anything, and it doesn't feel weak. It just feels like it's not getting enough fuel when starting when cold. Doesn't seem like spark, it's sparking, and like I said, starting fluid works fine when it's super cold. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

No, it seems to be OK. Although after the tuneup my idle is a slight bit higher. Runs the same, and AFR seems the same, I'm not seeing any difference in AFR once warmed up, or cold really. I haven't been logging it though, so it's possible it could be slightly different and I didn't notice. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Possible culprits in the order I would check them:
1. Mechanical fault with the aux air valve (AAV)
2. Electrical fault at the AAV
3. Electrical fault in the wiring leading to the AAV
4. Mechanical fault with the cold start valve (CSV)
5. Electrical fault at the cold start valve
6. Electrical fault at the Thermo Time Switch (TTS) (which tells the CSV when and how long to inject)
7. Electrical fault in the wiring between the TTS and CSV _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
