Dear 924 owners,
I registered for this forum because I'm facing a problem that has bugged me for a period of time. I bought the 81' 924 about 2 months ago, I did not do a PPI on it because I drove far away from my home to see this car and I was under time limit at the moment, so I basically went straight down to see the car couple days after I email the ex-owner when i saw his ad on the internet. He also did not let me test drive the car since there was no insurance on it, so he just took me around the block and let me decide if I wanted it.
A friend of mine who knows how to drive manual, drove the car back with me and I started learning manual driving in it. However, the steering is really loosen, I took a look at the U-Joint with somebody turning the wheel and it is pretty worn out. I asked our family mechanic if I can still drive it daily and he told me I should find a used U-joint for this car since the part is no longer manufactured anymore. And that I should not drive the car for far distances daily because I'm a new Manual driver, he suggested me to not take the car out far before I can find the U-Joint. I went onto so many websites but I still can't find used U-joints… What should I do..? I like this car but if I really can't find the Joint, I may look to finish some more easy replacement jobs on the car and put it up for sale. Again I really like this car, but I'm trying to learn driving a manual car every day to gain experiences, so things have to keep moving, and I'm pretty lost by getting stuck in this situation right now…
Any tips or suggestions would be very awesome, thank you all for your kind help and time for reading my long writings, truly appreciated! Cheers!
Sincerely,
Junior |

Remove the steering rack and shaft. Send the shaft/u-joints to this place for rebuild:

Once returned, reinstall the shaft along with the rack (with new inner and outer tie-rods), get the car aligned and go for a drive. _________________ Stefan
