| for the second time in 2 months I've had individuals come to my door and ask if any of my cars are for sale. todays guy spoke to my kids and gave them a flyer saying he buys Porsches, Ferraris, Aston martins etc etc. and for your dad to call when he gets home. For shits and giggles I gave this guy a call and asked some questions. He was quite agressive saying basically he and his partner would buy just about anything. Really? As I am in New York I figured his "partner" was Gullwing Motors over in queens, ny but surprise... it wasn't...it was the west coast Beverly Hills Car Club. We've seen the ads from both of these guys all over the net. Just last week someone posted a picture of an M1 smashed beyond repair and offered for 125k by Gullwing. So I ask...is this the fate of collector car world? Flippers on the prowel out looking to make a quick buck. Turn around rusty old porsches (restoration projects?) they buy for 1500 bucks for $15,000? A trashed 80's super car? Is this all part of what is a bubble in the collector car market? I am all for the capitalist system of making a buck but is this perverting the hobby? TV shows showing a quick flip and a restoration in 30 minutes all over the tube? we all saw how those flip my house things worked out. |
