This isn't a new topic but I wanted you guys to see it. That FAKE Carrera GT on Ebay is up to $4995- with 7 bids. I use Ebay a lot but I'm beginning to they that they kind of suck just a bit. I'm trying to email them to make them aware of the borderline fraudulent claims the seller is making. Remember that the PO tried to pass this off to me as the real thing last summer. The problem is that I can't figure out how to email them. They make it very difficult to get to them.

Does anyone know how to contact them? Let me know by Email please. I'd hate to see someone get taken by this guy. Liars suck.

E-bay doesn't want to hear from you, you'll get used to it. Also, unless the bidder's handle is their e-mail addy, you can't contact them either. New E-bay rules.

I can see that you’re pissed off about the dude potentially ripping off some one but eBay will do nothing - the only thing you can do is either: write to their legal department which will be too late and they will do nothing. Or you can give feed back on the seller to the extend that his rating drops to –4 and eBay will suspend him from the list meaning he can no longer bid or list.
eBay’s conditions of use specifically try to absolve themselves as to the correctness of any item.

See clause 3 of their Terms and Conditons.

3.1 Online Auctions. Although we are commonly referred to as an online auction web site, it is important to realize that we are not a traditional "auctioneer". Instead, our site acts as a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about anything, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of formats, including a fixed price format and an auction-style format commonly referred to as an "online auction". We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the items advertised, the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to buy items. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction.

3.4 Information Control. We do not control the information provided by other users which is made available through our system. You may find other user's information to be offensive, harmful, inaccurate, or deceptive. Please use caution, common sense, and practice safe trading when using our site.

Also if you want to get hold of them then you can send a letter to them as shown:
16. Notices.
Except as explicitly stated otherwise, any notices shall be given by postal mail to eBay Inc. Attn: Legal Department 2145 Hamilton Ave., San Jose, CA 95125 (in the case of eBay

In other words they take no responsibility and it’s up to the buyer to ascertain what he’s getting is real.

You can send bidders messages. Bring up the list of bidders, click on the one to send a msg to. eBay will require you to sign in, then it gives a screen where you can enter your message. It goes through eBay's e-mail - you won't see the recipients actual e-mail address.

Clearly that's a 924 Turbo that's been fancied up to look like a Carrera on the outside. The real one has a 210 HP engine, an intercooler under the hood scoop, 15" wheels and numerous other differences. The seller is saying it's not the real thing, but; trying to inject some "mystery" into it and says it "seems" to be a lot of things. "interesting vin, eh?" Well yeh, it's the vin of a car made 2 years before the Carrera. It would be a shame for anyone to be taken, but; for whoever that might be, it wouldn't be the first time and it won't be their last.

I like this line - "seems to be a naturally aspirated 924 Turbo."... What would that be?... A 924 Turbo without the turbo?

PS: You can e-mail the seller too...it looks like he has his fuel filter on backwards - a common mistake. My used 924 Turbo came this way also. The fuel actually flows from front to back on the side where the filter is located. The line then travels across, below the windsheild, then enters the engine compartment again on the other side near the battery, then runs on up to the fuel distributor. (Be sure the arrow on your fuel filter points to the rear of the car.)

- and oh yeh, no straps on the air box...What's up witdat?

I'm not sure how excited I'd be at this point regarding the bidders. I follow the eBay listings religiously and have found that cars that have reserves are bombarded by bidders who bid $1 or 50 cents just for fun. These reserves are rarely met and the car seldom sells. If one of these fun-loving bidders actually meets the reserve by accident, I think they deserve what they get.

Still, if it really does bug you, contact the bidders. I still doubt very much that they're interested in the car.

I have gone out on a limb and mailed a couple of the bidders a link to the 924.org page for Carreras GT/S/R. Hoping that they will learn something about what they are bidding on and realize they are being suckered. And hopefully ask a few questions that will embarrass the jackass that's trying to get 15,000 for a 79 turbo. We should all be so lucky.

I've done the same and haven't gotten a reply from the bidder. It could be that the bidder is also the seller and he's just running up the price himself. Then, if he accidently wins the bid, he'll just ignore it so, as the seller, he won't have to pay the Final Value Fee. Called shill bidding, it's illegal and can get you in serious trouble w/the law.

As the auction gets closer to closing, I think I'll send him another email. I already asked him to explain this "naturally aspirated turbo" and here's his reply:

"Well, I can't seem to locate the engine code, but it seems that the engine
is the stock Porsche 924 Turbo engine which had 175HP from the factory. As
you can see in the photos, there is no intercooler. The Carrera GT's had an
intercooler mounted under the hood scoop. I believe the turbo is the stock
924 KKK turbo. The previous owner had it replaced last year. Anything in
particular you would like to know about the turbo? It all seems to be
working well. Plenty of power in this little beast.

Best,
JON ACKERSON

That's all I've heard from him.
To his credit, he does try to walk a fine line by saying this "is as close to a carrera as you can get" in the Ebay blurb but certainly does nothing to go out of his way to dispell the description as "EXTREMELY UNIQUE PORSCHE 924 CARRERA GT".

Here's his email: shameone@hotmail.com

You'd have to be an idiot to just assume its a real Carrera GT, especially when you consider that the first and second sentences say it isn't.

I ACTUALLY JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR. POSSIBLY FOM THE PERSON YOU TRIED TO BUY IT FROM. AT ANY RATE I WOULD ASK THAT YOU STOP TWO THINGS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE SUED FOR SLANDER, YOU'RE WEEL ON YOUR WAY TO THAT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STIR UP A LEGAL BEES NEST YOUR ALSO WELL ON YOUR WAY TO DOING THAT. Del Sol:

Fact is, there are alot of idiots out there who will fall for this description and think they're getting something that is actually worth $15K. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, I'm glad Mike brought this to the board. Sellers like this are all over ebay and it's nice to see it brought out in the open.

Shill bidding is also very illegal.

I don't know what's what, but...

If this man is correct that Porsche installed the body, then this is a prototype, or a 'factory' facsimile. And I'd shut up if it is...cause it ***could*** be worth more than we think.

If this man is not correct, and Porsche did not install the body, then he's still represented the vehicle properly. Again, I'd let the market work.
