Charcoal Canister Question

On my 1988 Porsche 924S I noticed that I only have one hose coming from the Motor going into the charcoal canister. The charcoal canister has two ports one says Motor and the other says Luft.
I thought the charcoal canister was supposed to have a connection to the gas tank and to the motor. My understanding is that it collects the vapors from the gas tank and pushes them back into the motor. In my case it is not doing that. What is mine doing???
