This is a fairly simple question: How do I know when the odometer has rolled over and started again? I got a car with 20k miles on it but I wasn't 100% sure if the odometer maybe rolled over once and it actually had 120k. Thanks guys

You don't. However, with an honest seller, they might have checked the "mileage in excess of mechanical limits" on the title, which essentially means TMU or true mileage unknown.

For cars this old, you buy on condition rather than mileage unless the mileage is fully DOCUMENTED with a complete service history...

Unless your car is absolutely and incredibly original and pristine, which it might be, it is very doubtful that the odo is still on the first time around. More likely 120k or maybe 220k.

Wear in the carpets, pedals, shifter, steering wheel, etc. Plus obvious signs of mechanical work, how many original or replaced parts do you see?

Or, your odometer might be from a different car...

not easy, but ASSUMING IT HAS NOT HAD AN ENGINE CHANGE, look in the cam cover - or if you have an endoscope (and there cheap from china now) take a plug out and look at the bore wear. look for a relatively clean engine inside the oil cap.

filthy engine inside - probably been over - big lip on top of bore - probably been over - not always true - once had an engine with 160000 miles have a head-gasket go and the insides were pristine, it had been serviced very regularly and the insides looked like 20000, a bore lip was still there though - just a pity the previous guy didn't service the auto box!! that went as-well!!

You can pull out the odometer and see if it was opened. By the way I think they fail at about 70,000. Easy fix, all you need is the gear.
