Okay so I'm begining to wonder if I am using the wrong coolant now. Basically I put in valvoline Xerex (https://valvoline.com/products/consumer-products/antifreeze-radiator-products/antifreeze/40) as it said it was safe with aluminium. But I have since heard that all 'green' coolant should not be used and that there is also a red variant of the xerex? I believe the xerex does have some silicone in it but it is low. Would it be worth changing or is this stuff actually safe?

The green is fine. If you do change to red "dex-cool", you'll have to completely empty & flush the system. Green & red can't be mixed, it turns to mud.
