Hello Everyone!
I'd like to start off by saying I am new to the forum, and the 924 community. Its great to see how much time you guys put into helping one another out.
Well, getting on with it, I just recently bought a 1980 924 Turbo from my uncle. It was his baby, and he was the first and only owner up to last week. He had it sitting in his garage for a while and I was told he ran it once in a while, the last time he ran it was towards the end of November. He had it towed to me and when I got it I realized it didn't run!
I know for a fact that theres fuel getting into the combustion chamber and I was checking for spark and i don't seem to have any. I changed the coil today and there still doesn't seem to be any spark.
Can someone, well anyone, please throw out any ideas to what it might be and maybe explain how to test for what it might be. Pictures would be very much appreciated, especially since I'm not very familiar with the car.
Thanks to anyone that replies!!! |

Welcome. Post pics.
You should start by getting a manual, you're gonna need it. Check all your wiring and fuse connections. Corrosion on powers and grounds are common problems. If it ran 9 months ago and now doesn't, that would be a good place to start. Report back. |

Its about 1:14 am here and I've got work all day but later in the day when i get home ill take pictures of under the dash and engine bay so you guys can see it's condition. Since this beauty is my first car, i am a little hesitant to go and touch everything without any sort of knowledge. |

Welcome to the board. Once you get that car running you'll find that it is immensely fun to drive and amazingly comfortable for such a small sports car.
How ever you do have to get it running in the first place and while Your uncle may have started it every once in a while it doesn't sound like he drove it. So your first major reading assignment should be How to resurrect a long dead turbo. While yours may not be a long dead turbo it does cover some very important issues that you probably will run across.
Also we really like pictures here. Look forward to reading more about your car and your journey with it. _________________ Melanie - 1980 931

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic. |

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, i read through the thread which mainly talks about the fuel system. i know I'm getting fuel to the combustion chamber, but ill still probably go through those steps just to take care of the car.
BUT!!!!
i have GREAT NEWS!
i forgot to mention that last night i decided to change the spark plugs as well, and well i was working all day but when my father got home from work he decided to finish up the two spark plugs i didn't get to change last night. Afterwards he tried to start up the car and she's ALIVE!!!
There is a pretty bad coolant leak and it started over heating so he told me he parked it and tomorrow morning before i head to work I'm going to try and find out where the leak is coming from!
i got home late from work today so again i couldn't snatch any pictures so ill do so tomorrow morning when I'm looking for the leak. |
