it's a 4 cylinder so can't be that bad
I was able to lift up alone a Toyota 4AGE and put it in my trunk.(gotta love station wagons)
i would suggest putting a piece of wood in your trunk bottom if you don't want to brake your oem floor cardboard piece. _________________ 1979 924 NA |

924 engine is quite heavy...you need two guys to move it, you need two strong guys to lift it 1m from the ground. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I think a complete long-block is somwhere in the 300-350 pound range. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I towed a 1999 Passat 90+ miles on a tow dolly with a 3.0 Ford Ranger
Ok no more posting right after I wake up. I totally missed the part about it being an engine and not a whole car.

180hp and it will be a high strung grenade that needs race gas to survive a race weekend. _________________ Stefan

Obviously a huge amount with a good turbo setup.. Ive seen 136kg as an official number, but that is probably a euro spec engine. Don't know how much extra crap the us version have ☺ _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

That's one of the reasons that I'm ditching mine. |

Porsche got around 450bhp in the race cars. However he wanted to know about the non-turbo engines, which are SOHC 2.0L engines with slightly crappy heads and way too much rotating mass in the bottom end. The D-production race cars were in the range of 160-180hp with very high compression, ported head, larger cam, kugelfischer injection, etc. and we're reported to be rebuilt after nearly every race weekend. _________________ Stefan

I think it's more. I have lifted and carried the 944 engine without manifolds by myself, but struggled with the 924 complete engine when we were two... I was suprised at how heavy it were! _________________ Sveina

Seems like my memory is correct. But engine weight is always tricky, since it depends on what you count into it, but until anything else is presented I trust the factory figures ...
Engine weight is supposed to be 166kg in the 944. According to factory numbers.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Yeah, between the crank and the block, it adds up quick. The rest, other than the stock cast iron exhaust manifold, isn't too bad for mass.
Regarding power - I imagine that with modern engine controls - and especially some other modern technologies that could be added in - it wouldn't be too hard to build an NA up in the range of 160-170 hp without it being a time-bomb. _________________ Vaughan Scott

I've been reading the rules for an SCCA F Production 924 build and am not sure that we can get close to 160 HP. The restrictions include no porting beyond and inch from mating surfaces, 10.5:1 compression ratio, max cam lift of 1/2 inch and mandatory use of the stock throttle body. On the plus side, we can replace the CIS and use crank fire. Seems like air flow is the killer for HP. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA

I wasn't talking about adhering to any such rules.
But yeah, there's a reason my car never turned into a Prod car... _________________ Vaughan Scott
