|

Hi guys,
Small intro: I am from Netherlands and last month I bought a 937 which has been stored for 6 years. We are trying to get it roadworthy again and at this stage we have an iginition challenge. The car was fitted with a conventional ignition and we are re-installing the original one.
The problem is that there is hardly a spark, or only 1 in a full stroke. The DITC is not the problem as we have replaced it (yes, with a 937 original one). We hev also replaced the ignition/distributer coil with an original and that did not do the job.
Could it be the TDC sensor?? Any suggestions??
Many thanks in advance!! |

Transistorial amplifier located on the driver's wheel well.
Replace that one. I had the same problem when i converted my 924 to 924/937 ignition and DITC. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

| Just to be sure, you mean the box which adjusts/regulates the ignition timing, located indeed at left wheelwell below the stickers? |

The amplifier should be a pretty standard unit, I took one from an early volvo 740 when the original one gave up (erratic running, and sometimes didnt start at all, sometimes worked fine). _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The black part on the wheel well does not regulate timing. The DITC does that. But thats the part i was refering too...try to replace it but make sure the right wires are connected to it as you might also fry the replacement if you somehow fried the original. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

If all else fails with DITC or the crank sensor then worth looking at this from Mittelmotor http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-924-Turbo-GT-GTS-GTR-Zundverteiler-frei-programmierbar-/181283748558?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item2a355a7ace a plug and play, tune-able option for turbo, GT, GTS etc. with OEM looks. Mittelmotor are getting 343bhp with this on their GTS spec race car. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Gents,
We have found the item causing the problem:
It is the crank sensor (TDC) or top dead end sensor...
Do you have ANY idea where I can get one??
Many thanks in advance!! |

They are not produced anymore, we tried to study them and spec them to be able to find a replacement but with no concludent result.
You should find some from time to time on ebay(or on this board) as used and pulled from cars, but people know they are not in production and not in stock anymore so prices are high. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

At the beginning of this year, 'Stevekat', on this Board had one for sale......due to my impoverished situation at the time, I couldn't afford it.
Perhaps PM him? _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

I sold my crank sensor for $225 within days of being listed!! Very seldom seen and when they are for sale get snapped up. Most specialist have none when others have gone looking. Being 30+ years old and being so high in price there is a good chance it will fail in the near future and the Mittelmotor option starts to look a worthy investment. Especially as you can adjust the advance/retard based on boost and revs which you cannot do with a stock DITC. It holds two maps and can be switched between the two on the to. Being fitted in to a stock dizzy body it also looks totally original no one would spot it unless pointed out. Contact Michael at info@mittelmotor.de for a direct price. I paid less than the eBay price as that includes ebay and PayPal fees. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Just a question, outside my search request:
If you find a sensor with the right diameter and length (of the receiver/sensor device), in theory that one should work as well... Or am I wrong here.. I mean the plug can be adjusted using the 931 plug.
I also hear that some are using a BMW 3 series sensor.
Just curious... You guys are slightly longer in 'the scene' than I am...... |
