|
|
This may seem like a stupid question, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove this steering hub adapter (circled in red) that is currently installed in my car along with the janky Grant steering wheel. Any ideas? It is installed on the splined part of the steering shaft and I really want to install the stock wheel since it will look much better.
I am trying to look for installation instructions for this wheel to see if I can reverse install it but I also can't find anything. Any ideas? _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

Is a "Gear puller" necessary? _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

Should just slide off, friction may be causing an issue, make sure you have undone the 24mm nut though..

A puller is probably necesssary. A simple bar type with a few long bolts to thread into the adapter, then tighten the center bolt.
Another thing to try would be to reinstall the wheel without the center nut and rock it back and forth to pop it off. _________________ Stefan

The 24mm had been removed. It seems to be on there rock solid. Will try the other tips suggested, thanks! _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

Can't hurt to hit it with some penetrating oil. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| You need a steering wheel puller. If you feel like it is going to break once the puller pressure is on it, tap the side of the hub. It will pop right off. |

If I may add.....
Steering columns are designed to collapse so they don't go thru your chest on impact.

Thanks to whoever suggested the tip where I leave the wheel on and remove the center 28mm nut. That worked and my 924 is now rocking the original wheel, albeit severely dilapidated without thread around the leather, so I have to re-sew it. _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.
