So I was working on rewiring my fuel pump and grabbed onto a cv axle and discovered that my cv axles move a lot back and forth. They have no play up and down but the axle shaft will move a good inch into the diff or back towards the wheel. They don't seem to be making any noise. Do they need to be replaced and how soon? _________________ 1978 924 -parts car

All is well. You are looking for rotational play and torn boots. Axial play is normal. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Alright. Thanks. It was just really surprising that they move so much.
Hoping to make it down to the historics so one less thing to worry about. _________________ 1978 924 -parts car

Torn boots. I can hit a home run. See whilst up on jack stands I ran the car thru the gears...throwing to much caution to the wind I ripped both boots. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
