Hi guys, it's my first post here. Don't own a 924 yet, but hoping to soon. I'm restoring a 1969 Lotus Elan +2 right now and wanting a toy to drive while I spend the next four years or so restoring the Lotus.
I've also wanted a 924 for a long time and came across one for sale locally. It's in decent shape and the price is right, the only problem is that it's an automatic. I searched a few times on this forum to find threads on the process of an auto-manual swap. I've worked on a auto-manual swap on a Nissan 240sx before, but I know this is different with the transaxle setup.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know it will be a lot of work, but there is a wrecker full of Porsche parts and a few cars around being wrecked.
I know the logical choice is to buy a manual car and start there, but there aren't many good ones around these parts.

Best bet is to buy two cars, the auto you want, and a manual parts car. Or, I'm cutting up a rust free california car this spring. It has the pedals you'll need and the firewall bit for the clutch master cylinder. That's if you want a hydraulic system, not sure how adaptable it is on an n/a. Then, while yer in there, upgrading to four wheel disc brakes, new brake cylinder/booster, all parts I have, will get 'er done~! And, throw in a newer Audi 5-speed, appropriate torque tube, clutch, bellhousing.

Thanks for the reply. Just after I posted this, another car came up for sale and its a manual. It's an early car, not sure exactly of the year, possibly a 77. I know I can tell the year by fourth digit of the VIN. But what I'd like to know if it's an early 95hp car or a later 110hp version. According to Wiki, the change was made for 1977.5 cares. Any easy way I can tell which version it is?

| If the exhaust system was not altered, one difference is the early '77 95 HP had no catalytic converter which was used on the later '77 1/2 110 HP 924. The later car also had a different owner's manual marked 1977 1/2. The VIN range for the earlier 95 HP 924 is VIN 9247230001 - 9247235789. |

The hydraulic clutch can be swapped into the N/A car. But it is easier if you have a '79 or newer. Beginning with 1979 the hydraulic clutch provision in in all of the cars. For the earlier cars you need to cut a hole in the firewall, add a reinforcement to the firewall and dent the left inner fender well for the clutch master cylinder clearance.
