I appear to be recovering from my surgery, Back Fusion L1-S1 basically rib cage to butt so I sitting around with not much better to do than ask questions.

The favor, could someone who has a a '77 go pull the head light high/low flasher and tell me what the part number is. It changed by at least 1979 and all the PN's listed by Porsche are for the 79 and later. The relay on a LHD version is the first one on left on the bottom row and should be something similar to 411 941 583 (1979-on), Early VW but missing a pin is 111-941-583A.

It seems like the only way to figure it out is just grab one off a car.

Won't be able to fix it for a couple of months, but at least I could try to find one or figure out a work around.

Thanks in advance

Ouch! Get well, man!

Wish I could help, but the 77 Martini is safely tucked away at the shop and I won't be able to get over there until Saturday. Hopefully someone else can chime in before that.

Thanks, I'm obviously not in any hurry as I have made it out to the garage twice to pick up a tool so DW could winterize our camper. The only thing I did with the car was use it as support for walking as my walker wouldn't getto the tool box

So what's up with Cricket Designs??? Is that your company? Maybe I should buy another paddle for my canoe!

I searched places I've bought parts from in the past for PN numbers for your '78 924 headlight dimmer relay. Eliminating the PNs you have already tried, the residue was for Meryle Dimmer Relay PN 835 54004 500. I then did a "reverse" search in Google to see what would turn up with that PN --there were only 14 sites listed for the following search term:

"835 54004 500" 1978 Porsche relay

and of those 14 sites, the following sites had the relay listed specifically for the '78:
discountautoparts.com
ebsracing.com
dsnwparts.com
pelhamautoparts.com

So, if you don't get any solid leads, you might call EBSRacing with the problem, as in the past, they have been helpful to me in discussing 924 parts. Other possibilities if all else fails is to order a "recycled" dimmer relay from an online used parts store or follow the advice from a post on Rennlist where a '78 924 owner who ran into the same problem modified a new relay to work.

The relay in that position on my 1977 is 321 941 583

I wonder if, once again, the same headlight dimmer relay PN 321 941 583 covers two different relays.

In this case, the PN 321 941 583 relay used for VWs in the U.S. didn't have the flash function and was a 4-terminal circuit no pin for the 30 terminal. For a picture see 4-terminal PN 321 941 583 which is discussed with more case images as lacking terminal 30 on the Flasher relay...Correct Part Number? thread on Volkszone forum.

The European version for VWs had the fifth terminal 30 with a wiring diagram which is similar to the wiring circuit '78 Porsche 924, For comparison here's an image of the 5 terminal VW Headlight Dimmer Relay circuit used in Europe with the flash function:

At one time Pelican Parts said (and might do so now AFAIK) that PN 321 941 53 had been superceded by PN 111 941 583 which has been wired differently.

On eBay I could only see 4 pin used PN 321 941 583 relays for sale. Unless anyone comes up with a better idea, it appears your options are to either find a used relay or re-wire one yourself with the relay you first got from Pelican.

Success----FINALLY

Both the the 328-941-583 and the 111-941-583A relays work. The key must be turned on for the headlights to come on. The 328 is from a approx '67-79 VW Beetle. They are both 4 pin relays, The difference is that both have and F terminal rather than 56b and they are reversed between the two relays. The extra 30 terminal on the wiring diagram exists in the relay holder, but not used in this case.
