So I finally took my car out yesterday for the second time (first was when I bought it 2 years ago), and all the gears grind very badly. 1st gear will even grind with the clutch pedal pushed all the way in (while the car is moving). Although a couple gear shifts seemed to be perfect (3rd-4th a couple of times). There also seems to be next to no play in the clutch pedal. Clutch cable doesn't look worn at all.
So first thing I want to do is make sure the clutch pedal is properly adjusted. I read a few other threads on here but I'm still not sure what the proper procedure is.
I measured the distance that's supposed to be 138mm and its around 175 mm (about 2mm from the bottom part resting against the bellhousing).
I'm pretty sure I understand how to adjust the nuts to change the free play on the pedal but according to the manual I should fix the clutch cable holder thing first.
I'm going camping for the weekend, and will probably start working on the car on Monday. I thought I'd just get some pointers and suggestions from you guys before I started messing with it.

The trick I heard was to loose the adjustment until there is about 1/4-1/2" of slack when pulling up on the cable and locking the adjustment in place.
My clutch arm came loose on my car, but that resulted in the clutch pedal going to the floor and stranding me. I replaced the bolt with a stronger on and torqued it down much tighter.
My point is that you only need to worry about the distance between the arm and the cable mount if you've had the arm off at all or suspect it might have slipped. _________________ Stefan
