Scenario:
>blinkers & hazard lights just stopped working one day
>blinker indicator light located in centre of the instrument cluster, stays on when attempting to use the blinkers

Attemp to fix:
1. Replaced flasher relay but still no blinkers or hazard lights
2. Placed all old fuses whith new but still no
3. Traced wiring and checked connectors - no!
4. Checked all light globes - still no flashers nor hazard light

Is there something that I am missing? HELP! I really dont want to take it to an auto electrictian. What other areas can I look at? Any assitance would be greatly appreciated

ITS annoying not being able to drive due to a small GREMLIN!!

Note: blinkers mean flashers mean indicators

Assuming the relevant grounds are bright and shiny as well, you might try spraying contact cleaner at the base of the turn signal lever.

it really has me stumped as you would not think an issue in the stalk would stop the hazard lights from working - it all points to the flasher relay but that has been replaced already??? [scratch head]

okay so i have replaced every single globe in the car, made sure each connection was shiny, i cleaned the stalk contacts, looked under dash for any other rogue relays or the like. When I psychicly handled the hazard switch from under the dash, it felt off into my hands - it split in two! could this be the cause of it all? a faulty hazard switch. Ive tried to make sense of the wiring diagram but I am obviously missing some education around that.

Can anyone confirm that this may be the cause of my problems, I will replace the hazard switch anyway but because if has to come from O/S it takes it time and I want to drive it now damn it!

Sorry for my misunderstanding -- locally 'blinkers' normally mean the turn signal indicators and related switch, and since that's directly connected to the emergency flasher switch on the '81 wiring diagram, that was about the only thing left that you did not already check at that point in your thread.

Definitely. The emergency flasher switch is at a central position in the current flow diagram for the '81, as I sure you know. It's directly linked to the turn signal switch the hazard/turn signal flasher, the brake warning light, brake light switch, tachometer, rear defogger ... so I can't see any other way around other than replacing or rebuilding the emergency flasher switch before you drive.
